MIU - Audio Visual Technician

Audio Visual TechnicianAbout the RoleThe Academic AV Technician supports the technical execution of campus events, classrooms, conferences, and hybrid productions through professional AV setup, live troubleshooting, and client-focused support. This role requires strong technical knowledge, reliability, organization, communication skills, and the ability to perform effectively in fast-paced, high-pressure event environments.ResponsibilitiesSet up and operate audiovisual equipment for campus events, classrooms, conferences, and sporting eventsSupport hybrid and virtual events using Zoom and portable Zoom Room systemsConfigure and troubleshoot PA systems, microphones, speakers, cameras, and audio mixersMonitor and manage AV signal flow, networking connections, and live event production systemsProvide real-time technical support during live events and presentationsCommunicate professionally with faculty, staff, students, vendors, and event clientsMaintain organization and tracking of AV inventory, asset tags, and equipment storageTransport, set up, and strike AV equipment before and after eventsPerform routine equipment testing, maintenance, and troubleshootingCoordinate multiple event setups while ensuring reliability, punctuality, and strong follow-through on assigned responsibilitiesQualificationsTechnical Qualifications2-5 years of hands-on experience in audiovisual support, live events, higher education, or conference production environmentsStrong technical knowledge of AV systems including PA systems, microphones, speakers, cameras, audio mixers, projectors, and hybrid event technologyExperience supporting Zoom meetings, webinars, and portable Zoom Room configurationsUnderstanding of AV signal flow, basic networking, streaming workflows, and troubleshooting techniquesAbility to quickly diagnose and resolve technical issues in live, high-pressure environmentsExperience with inventory management, asset tagging, equipment organization, and maintenance proceduresAbility to set up, operate, and strike AV systems in a variety of environments including classrooms, conferences, outdoor events, and sporting eventsAbility to lift and transport AV equipment and work in a variety of event settings indoors and outdoorsProfessional and Personal QualificationsStrong communication and customer service skills with the ability to work professionally with faculty, staff, students, vendors, and guestsHighly reliable, punctual, and organized with strong attention to detail and follow-throughFlexible schedule availability including nights, weekends, and occasional holidays based on event needsAbility to prioritize tasks, follow departmental hierarchy and procedures, and work effectively both independently and as part of a teamCalm, professional demeanor with strong problem-solving skills in fast-paced environmentsAbility to remain adaptable and solution-oriented during changing event conditions and schedulesDemonstrated professionalism, accountability, and positive client-facing behavior at all times
