Duties include creating 3-D models, 2-D drawings, test specifications, Director's BOMs, and working with manufacturing engineering, product management, and customers for cost estimation, production support, and qualification.Essential ResponsibilitiesDevelop high-speed and filtered connectors and contacts from concept through production following a Stage Gate process.Create 3-D models and 2-D drawings of connectors based on electrical, mechanical, and environmental requirements.Establish signal-integrity design performance/functional requirements for new product designs.Design PCBs and test adapters to perform evaluation and validation of connector signal integrity.Prepare and release manufacturing assembly drawings and bills of materials (BOMs).Initiate and support drawing changes (ECNs, impact assessments, material dispositions).Support production with manufacturing, supplier, quality issues, and others that affect fiber-optic interconnect products.Prepare labor and material cost estimates for new connectors and contacts; identify NRE and equipment needs.Develop qualification test plans that meet customer and/or industry performance requirements.Support procurement in alternate component selections and alternate sourcing.Interface directly with customer technical personnel to interpret design requirements.Perform tolerance analysis and FEA on mating designs.Perform contract review on new revisions to customer specifications.Engineering product setup, design, and lifecycle management.Engineering BOM creation, documentation creation, and updates.Multi-functional team member representing Product Engineering.Product testing/qualification support and overview within Product Evaluation Lab.Perform other duties as assigned by Engineering Management.Position RequirementsBachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical degree.Minimum 5 years of experience in Mil/Aero high-speed and/or filter connector design.Experience creating Mil/Aero high-speed connector and contact component and assembly drawings.Knowledge of industry standard communication protocols (10/100/1G/10G BASE-T Ethernet, Single-Pair Ethernet, analog/digital video, 1553 databus, USB, DisplayPort, HDMI, SATA).Experience with 3-D CAD software (Creo, SolidWorks, NX, or similar).Proficiency in high-speed performance test equipment (network analyzer, Fluke DSX, etc.).Knowledge of contact technologies and contact physics theory.Strong analytical capabilities to interpret simulation and lab data.Experience designing both cable-side and PCB connectors.Familiarity with design for harsh environments.Knowledge of electromagnetic theory and electrical circuit behavior.Knowledge of metal properties (conductivity, corrosion, machining methods, plating options).ASME Y14.5 Dimensioning and Tolerancing, including GD&T.Ability to manage multiple tasks to drive results.High self-motivation and a willingness to make a difference and learn.Excellent communication skills and ability to work with different departments.Knowledge of MS Office products such as Excel, Word, etc.Ability to travel periodically (up to 10%).Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent U.S. Resident to be considered for this role.PreferredBroad experience in military specification connector design applying innovative design principles to add high-speed communication protocol performance.Experience designing filtered connectors (planar array, chip-on-flex).CREO parametric 3-D modeling/documentation experience.Extensive knowledge of manufacturing processes required to fabricate Mil/Aero connectors.Experience in Design for Six Sigma (DFSS), Design for Manufacturability (DfM), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Design of Experiments (DOE), and Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) principles.Safety and ComplianceSafety is a core value at ITT.
