Commissioning Engineer

Commissioning Engineer - Utility Substations Overview Seeking a Commissioning Engineer/Tech to support testing, commissioning, and energization of electric utility substation protection, control, and power systems from pre-commissioning through project closeout. Responsibilities Perform and document commissioning activities for utility substation systems. Review drawings, schematics, and engineering documents prior to construction and outages. Troubleshoot protection, control, and substation equipment issues (wiring, settings, drawings, equipment). Support development of commissioning, testing, and energization plans. Participate in project meetings and prepare daily, weekly, and final reports. Ensure all testing is completed safely, accurately documented, and compliant with project requirements. Identify risks and support site-specific safety and risk assessments. Qualifications 5+ years of commissioning or testing experience (utility preferred). Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics. Knowledge of protection & control systems, relays, and AC/DC circuits. Experience with medium/high-voltage substation equipment. Familiarity with Doble, ProTest, SEL AcSELerator, or similar tools preferred. Strong communication and documentation skills. Requirements Valid U.S. work authorization and driver's license. Willingness to travel for extended periods. Flexible schedule (nights, weekends, overtime as needed). Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Dallas, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $80.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
