Engine Test Lab Technician

About the Role As an Engine Test Lab Technician, you will play a critical role in the product development lifecycle by evaluating engine performance, durability, and failure mechanisms. You will leverage your technical expertise in combustion analysis and instrumentation to drive innovation and ensure the highest quality standards for engine components. Responsibilities Configure and manage complex test setups, including thermocouples, pressure transducers, and data acquisition systems to monitor engine performance metrics. Execute rigorous testing protocols, such as power checks and fuel consumption analysis, to generate actionable data for engineering teams. Utilize advanced software platforms like AVL or EFI calibration tools to process and interpret high-speed combustion data. Perform precision fabrication and mechanical modifications using lathes, drill presses, and welding equipment to prepare test samples. Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment to ensure operational compliance and accuracy in all test results. Document findings and provide technical recommendations for design improvements based on observed failure mechanisms and performance trends. Coordinate with cross-functional teams and external suppliers to streamline testing workflows and meet project milestones. Manage laboratory inventory and maintain a safe, organized workspace to support continuous testing operations. Qualifications Required Skills High school diploma or GED equivalent. Demonstrated experience and passion for internal combustion engine mechanics. Proficiency in technical documentation and reporting test outcomes. Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in electromechanical systems. Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, detail-oriented mindset. Preferred Skills Associate degree in a technical or engineering-related field. Previous experience working in a professional engine test laboratory. Familiarity with blueprint reading and engineering specifications. Experience with data acquisition software and engine performance diagnostics.
