Job Summary
Drivers provide transportation for our disabled participants from their home to our Day Program and for field trips in the community as part of the day program. IN addition to performing pre/post trip inspections. Physical attendance is essential to performing the job duties. There are no evening shifts, weekends or holiday work required.
**This position is a split-shift position working in the morning and afternoon.
Transportation Driver Responsibilities:
Drive vehicles in a safe and responsible manner which includes utilizing defensive driving skills, following policies, procedures and assigned routes.
Following all state rules and regulations in addition to state non-medical transportation regulations.
Loads and unloads participants in and out of vehicles and assists participants into and out of their homes in adherence with policies and procedures.
Keeps Day Program Manager updated on all events of their assigned routes.
Maintains safety and cleanliness of assigned vehicle and coordinates scheduling of van maintenance with the Manager of Transportation.
Completes daily/weekly driving logs. Ensuring accurate gas, mileage, and other data is recorded.
Assists other Drivers with the loading and unloading of participants arriving and exiting the center.
Additional work functions and duties may be assigned.
Pick up and drop off clients at homes
Follow all traffic laws
Qualifications
Clean Driving Record
Ability to follow GPS directions
Previous Defensive Driving experience
One year of experience working with the frail or elderly
High school diploma or GED or previous experience of one year or more within the realm of the position’s duties and responsibilities may be substituted in the absence of a high school diploma.
Physically able to lift 50 pounds.
Great time management and organizational skills
Sit for 3 hours at a time while operating the vehicle at a minimum of 2 times a day.
Knowledge or ability to learn to operate a wheelchair lift.
Licensure Requirements by State
Valid state issued Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger endorsement (will accept Class A)
At least 21yrs of age with a good driving record
6 months’ experience transporting individuals with special mobility needs.
PREFERRED
Knowledge of how to use and maintain positions equipment is desirable.
Experience transporting the disabled/elderly.
Six months experience transporting individuals with special mobility needs.
Knowledge or ability to learn to operate a wheelchair lift.
