Gessner Engineering Materials Technicians collect and perform tests on soils, concrete, and asphalt both in the field and in the lab. Clients request our testing services to serve as quality control for certain aspects of their projects. The tests Materials Technicians perform verify if materials meet specifications. Locations: Brenham or Bryan Duties & Responsibilities/Essential Functions Perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor on construction sites. Perform field inspection and testing Field Concrete Testing: Slump, Air Content, Cast Compressive Strength Specimens Field Density of In-Place compacted soils Conduct Reinforcing Steel Observations Conduct Proof Roll Observations Laboratory testing of soils, aggregate and asphalt Prepare daily reports and documentation of field activities in electronic format Maintain a clean work area: pick up and clean all tools and equipment Perform materials handling and storage Load and unload trucks, haul and hoist materials Ensure that proper personal protective equipment is worn on all job sites. Brings problems to the attention of your manager or HR manager. Possess the ability to fluently read and understand procedures Safely operate Gessner Engineering vehicles on the road and within job sites Maintain company equipment and vehicles in line with proper use, maintenance, and safety guidelines Perform logging and packaging of soil samples Assist Drilling team with augers and sampling tools appropriate for unique soil conditions Communicate job site conditions with team and engineering teams as needed Qualifications Education High School Diploma or equivalent Licensure/Certifications Required - Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record for the past 3 years Preferred - one or more of the following ACI Concrete Field-Testing Certification ACI Concrete Strength Testing ACI Aggregate Testing SB 101 – Materials Properties SB 102 – Field Specialist SB 201 – Moisture-Density Specialist Experience/Skills Verbal and written communication skills Physical strength, stamina, and dexterity to lift and move 70 lbs., stoop, bend and stand throughout the course of up to a 12-hour workday in varying weather conditions at various construction sites with varying terrain. As a Gessner technician, your normal work schedule is 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM, with a mandatory 30 minute to one-hour break for lunch. In addition, you may be required to come in early and/or stay late for field and lab tests. Any departures from the normal work schedule will be issued by or approved by your supervisor.
