Role DescriptionThis is a part-time, on-site role based in New York, NY, for a Classroom Assistant in a mixed-age, Reggio-Emilia inspired classroom of 3- and 4-year-olds. We follow an emergent curriculum model where explorations and units of study are based on the interests of the children. The Classroom Assistant will support the lead and assistant teachers in day-to-day classroom management and implementation of the emergent curriculum. The Classroom Assistant will also support students' individual needs and collaborate with staff to ensure effective learning experiences. The role involves assisting in preparing classroom materials, supporting the social-emotional growth of children, maintaining an organized and safe classroom environment and all other duties as assigned by the lead teacher. The Classroom Assistant must engage with children in a warm and joyful manner.QualificationsCommitment to developmentally appropriate practice, learning through play, and positive disciplineUnderstanding of or strong willingness to learn how to implement an emergent curriculumAt least 2 years of experience working with preschoolersStrong skills in classroom managementExperience in preparing and organizing classroom materialsAbility to work collaboratively with teachers and staff to support classroom goals and to accept supervision and feedbackExcellent interpersonal and communication skills Creativity is essential; a background in visual art a plusAbility to work on-site in New York, NY, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive environmentThe ideal candidate will have a child development associate's degree; undergraduate or graduate students in early childhood education are encouraged to apply
