Legislative Clerk - Office of Representative Kanika BrownJob DescriptionDESCRIPTION OF WORK: North Carolina House Representative Kanika Brown is seeking a highly qualified professional to work as a Legislative Assistant in his office. A Legislative Assistant works directly with a House Member in fulfilling his or her public obligations by providing support in the areas of administration, communication, research, and public relations.This position requires a high level of organization and accountability as well as the ability to perform independently and maintain composure in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.This position is a permanent, full-time position. Days of work are typically Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This position is under the direct supervision of the Representative and has no direct supervisory responsibilities, unless requested by the Member to assist in the supervision of an intern.Examples of Duties: The Legislative Assistant will be given a wide range of tasks, projects, and duties, including, but not limited to, the following:Conducting research into various public policy issuesOffice management, email, and calendar managementDrafting correspondence and constituent newsletterCoordinating with other legislators and staff on policy initiatives and legislationCoordinating with state agency liaisons to fulfill constituent requestsCreating and monitoring communication strategies for the RepresentativeOther items related to the Representative's official dutiesIdentifying and monitoring district specific issuesOther tasks assigned by the RepresentativeKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES:Ability to present information clearly and concisely, both orally and in writingPractical knowledge of the elements of reference and policy researchProficiency with all Microsoft Office applications, research software, and Adobe Acrobat DCAbility to maintain composure and work cooperatively under pressure with legislators, legislative staff, and the public on a daily basisAbility to work independently, organize and analyze materials, and prioritize tasksAbility to maintain confidentiality and to handle politically sensitive workAbility to work objectively and impartially both with respect to members of both political parties and with respect to issues of stateWillingness and ability to work extended schedulesMINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:Required Education and Experience: Undergraduate degree; or an equivalent combination of education and experiencePreference will be given to those with the following:Strategic Communications Expertise: Knowledge of platform-specific and messaging best practices for various platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, and TikTok)Strong record of academic achievementStrong record of leadership and organizational ability in an academic, professional, and/or extracurricular settingDemonstrated independent responsibility, professionalism, and attention to detailSUPPLEMENTAL AND CONTACT INFORMATION:Instructions: To apply for the Legislative Assistant position, please send supporting documents to Clayton.Robinson@ncleg.gov no later than Monday, October 20th 2025.Required Supporting Documents:About UsThe North Carolina General Assembly (NCGA) is the bicameral legislature of the State of North Carolina, composed of the Senate and the House of Representatives.
