Apprentice Grinder
Apprentice Precision Grinder
Meyer Engineered Materials (MEM Grinding) — Aerospace Industrial
Location: Kent, WA Shift: 6am to 2:30pm Pay: Competitive hourly + growth path
If you like working with your hands, care about doing things right, and want a real career in precision manufacturing, this is a strong place to start.
Meyer Engineered Materials is a high-standards precision grinding shop supporting aerospace, and industrial customers. We produce build-to-order metal pins, rods, and tool plates where tolerance, surface finish, and process discipline matter. We train people the right way—hands-on, step-by-step—so they can become confident, capable grinders.
The Role: Apprentice Precision Grinder (Entry Level)
You’ll train alongside experienced grinders and learn the fundamentals of precision grinding—from how a wheel contacts material at the “gemba point,” to how small process changes affect size, finish, and quality. This is a hands-on role with clear expectations, structure, and opportunity.
What You’ll Learn and Do
Learn the principles of precision grinding and safe shop practices
Assist with machine setup and operation under supervision (surface/OD/ID/centerless depending on work)
Support production by preparing jobs, staging material, and following travelers/work instructions
Perform in-process and final visual checks, and support measurement routines (micrometers, indicators, basic gaging)
Maintain a clean, organized work area (5S mindset) and support routine machine care
Follow MEM quality practices (AS9100D environment): documentation, traceability, and doing it right the first time
What We’re Looking For
High school diploma or equivalent
Strong mechanical aptitude and a genuine desire to learn a trade
Reliable, steady, and safety-minded—shows up and follows through
Good attention to detail (you notice what others miss)
Basic math and the ability to read work instructions/prints (we’ll teach what you don’t know)
Manufacturing experience is helpful, but not required—coachability matters most
Why MEM
Structured training with experienced mentors (not “figure it out” training)
Work that matters—parts used in demanding industries
A culture built around quality, discipline, and continuous improvement
Clear growth path: Apprentice → Grinder → Set-Up → Lead (based on skill and consistency)
Benefits
Competitive hourly wage
Comprehensive training program
Opportunities for advancement and skill development
Health insurance and retirement benefits
Paid time off and holiday pay
