Contract Attorney: Investigative & Disciplinary Law (Flexible Schedule)Are you a licensed attorney who loves the \"detective work\" of law but craves a better work-life balance? Our legal staffing agency is seeking a detail-oriented Contract Attorney to support the Office of Disciplinary Counsel (ODC).In this role, you will provide essential technical and legal services to ensure professional standards are upheld. You will work as an employee of our staffing agency, assigned to a vital government function where your research and writing directly influence the integrity of various professional industries.The Perk: True Schedule FlexibilityWe understand that the standard 9-to-5 doesn't fit every talented lawyer’s life.Choose Your Hours: We prefer a consistent schedule of approximately 20 hours per week, though you may work up to 37.5 hours if desired.Customize Your Week: You do not have to work all five days. You help set the schedule that stays consistent week-to-week.Long-Term Stability: While this is a contract position, it is an ongoing role with long-term potential.Key ResponsibilitiesWorking under general supervision, the selected candidate will:Analyze Evidence: Identify gaps in evidence and organize demonstrative exhibits for presentation.Conduct Research: Perform substantive legal research into professional practices (e.g., medical, real estate, building) as they relate to disciplinary actions.Draft Legal Documents: Prepare settlement agreements, pleadings, and preliminary orders (such as injunctions or temporary suspensions).Manage Case Flow: Use agency dockets and management systems to ensure all legal matters move forward within strict timelines.Consult & Collaborate: Work independently to assess the legal sufficiency of requests while coordinating closely with witnesses and support staff.What You Bring to the TableEducation: A Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.Experience: You must be a practicing attorney. While any experience is required, two (2) years of practice is highly preferred.Local Expertise: A solid grasp of South Carolina laws and judicial/quasi-judicial procedures.Analytical Skill: The ability to take a pile of facts and evidence and turn them into a logical, clear legal argument.Versatility: An interest in learning the nuances of different professions to better understand disciplinary proceedings.Compensation & BenefitsPay Range: $30.00 – $50.00 per hour (The upper end of the range is reserved for very seasoned candidates).Benefits: We offer health insurance for candidates who meet eligibility requirements.Employment Status: You will be a W-2 employee of our staffing agency, not the government agency itself.How to ApplyIf you are a self-motivated attorney looking for a meaningful way to use your JD without the burnout of traditional firm life, we want to hear from you.
