Date: June 2026Role: Process Development Engineer – Cathode MaterialsReports to: Operations The Company: Located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Stratus Materials is an early-stage, technology-based company focused on the development and manufacture of advanced active cathode materials for the lithium-ion battery industry. Our primary focus is on advanced electric vehicle batteries, but our materials will also be applicable and very attractive for many other end-user applications using lithium-ion batteries. In late 2025, the company secured a substantial Series B round of financing and is using those funds to execute on its business plans. If you are interested in a dynamic, high-growth opportunity where you can dig in and make a difference, we look forward to meeting you.Summary of Position: The Process Development Engineer at Stratus Material is directly responsible for developing, prototyping, and validating processes used to manufacture the cathode active materials in our pilot and pre-pilot lines. We seek an individual with practical experience in developing processes from initial concept through to large-scale implementation. The ideal candidate should also possess a proactive, interdisciplinary approach to addressing challenges. This role will work closely with material scientists, operations technicians, quality and test engineers to develop world class energy storage materials which requires strong verbal and written communication skills.ResponsibilitiesOwn the development and optimization of novel material manufacturing technologiesPrioritize safety across all aspects of manufacturing, ranging from process design to scaled operationsCollaborate with the product design, R&D, quality, equipment and supply chain teams to translate product requirements into manufacturing processes that achieve our company targetsSelect the right manufacturing methods to make the best possible cathode active materials and validate those recommendations through rigorous engineering experiments and qualification buildsDemonstrate ownership and accountability, making a major impact on our material production technology by commissioning and owning novel processes in a fast-paced prototype manufacturing environment Support documentation and training activities related to the transition of processes into operations including standard operation procedures (SOPs) and preventative maintenance activitiesRequirements – Education, Experience, and Skills:At least 3 years of experience in a materials-oriented manufacturing environment in either process engineering, new product introduction or scale-upA Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or equivalentHands on experience with medium to large equipment and a desire to roll up your sleeves and fill the gaps where necessaryProficiency in process engineering principles, statistical analysis, and quality management systems for process optimization and improvementExperience owning manufacturing processes and showing accountability for their quality, throughput, yield, and overall success Excellent documentation, communication, and organizational skills Requirements – Geographic and Physical:Located in Pittsburgh, PAAble to frequently move about an office and standing on a production floor.
