CRAVEN COUNTY SCHOOLSExceptional Children's Personal Needs Assistant / Bus MonitorPosition DescriptionPosition: Exceptional Children's Personal Needs Assistant / Bus MonitorReports to: PrincipalTerms of Employment: 10 monthsPay Grade: 55FLSA Status: Non-exemptNature of WorkAn employee with this job description provides support to a specific assigned student during the instructional day. A wide variety of tasks are performed to support the student and teacher in the teaching-learning process for the assigned student. Problems are solved through the exercise of judgment in selecting the best course of action to be taken.Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma or G.E.D.Certification and Licensure Requirements (if applicable):Essential Functions/Typical TasksServes a helper/caregiver to accommodate the comfort/needs of the assigned student. This may include feeding, toileting, lifting, etc.Works in collaboration with the student's teachers to provide an effective classroom learning environment for the studentProvides individualized instruction/directions to the studentsDemonstrates various instructional activities to assist the student's comprehension and ability to access the curriculumKeeps student on taskPraises and reinforces achievement of the studentAssists in data collection and reports student progress to teacherAssists with management of student behaviorMonitor buses for students in need of Specialized Transportation as neededKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesExperience and knowledge of students needs at different ages, educational and developmental levelsWorking knowledge of educational practices, processes, and techniquesWillingness to become familiar with Craven County School Districts educational policies and rules as well as federal and state laws, regulations, policies, and rulesSkill in communicating verbally, and written, through translation and interpretationSkill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with othersMaintain confidential student informationParticipates in staff development opportunities by the district.Participates in CPI certification yearly.Physical RequirementsWork is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking. Position will require the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing and the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations. Work will entail bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching and the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull medium weights, up to 50 pounds.Special RequirementsNA
