Electric Transmission & Distribution is comprised of approximately 6,500 coworkers.Position SummaryThis job is represented by Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC), subject to collective bargaining.An Electric Field Engineer contributes technical and engineering services to key office and field personnel on construction jobs. During initial assignments, the Field Engineer may be required to learn and perform all the duties of a Field Engineering Technician and Senior Field Engineering Technician. With experience, assignments will expand to require supervision of Inspectors, other Field Engineers, Field Engineering Technicians, Senior Field Engineering Technicians, and other similar field personnel.This Field Engineer position will support the projects that are being built by PG&E internal resources and by the contractors. This will require the engineer to work closely with various PG&E internal teams and contractors to execute the construction. Some essential functions of the position will require the engineer to review and evaluate a project for its constructability and scope, schedule the work, forecast contract costs, submit Application For Work (AFW) to de-energize circuits, review contract change orders, and close jobs with final As-Built. Additionally, the Field Engineer will use engineering expertise to solve any problems or help guide other team members to resolve any issues during construction of the assigned project. This might include performing field assessment and coordination with other utilities or internal departments. Other work includes material management, project tracking and monitoring of construction activities both in cost and schedule, creation of Contract Work Authorization (CWA) in SRM, and SAP update.This position will work in both the field and office capacities, with occasional storm duty or storm response required. Travel within PG&E’s service territory at any time, with little notice, may be required.PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreement, and internal equity.Under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, the hourly rate range for this position is $51.15 to $76.65, subject to collectively bargained wage increases.Job ResponsibilitiesCompletes scheduling, budgeting, and forecastingDevelop project timelines and milestones; perform scheduling and forecastingCoordinates engineering work between operating Divisions and General ConstructionMay direct the activities of certain employees or crews on job assignments requiring engineering expertiseInspects and monitors the work of contractors to assure compliance with specifications and plansMakes engineering studies and analysisRecommends and approves changes in construction drawings or specificationsSolve simple and complex engineering construction problemsAudits work under construction for current construction standards, rules, and regulationsSupport construction supervisor and inspector by providing technical and engineering expertise in the construction of the projectTrack and monitor financial performance of projects/programs against forecastsAble to wear company provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)Perform field visits for ongoing construction projectsResolve any material issuesFollow up on timely submission of field markups for As-Built drawingsExpedite completion of As-Built drawingsEvaluate Stations for Drawing cleanupIdentify process gaps and recommend improvementsConduct On-site As-built Incorporation for smaller projects as needed working with internal teamsProactively work with field crews and the As-Built Desk to ensure work is completed, crew demobilized, and Field Correction Drawings are sent to the As-Built Desk.Provide Pre-As-Built packages, order materials, and construction support for smaller Emergency/Just In Time projects.Share lesson learned with engineering and field teams and provide feedback to Engineering and Standards on needed improvements.QualificationsMinimum:Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction management OR 2 years of experience and supplemental education* / EITMust possess a valid California Driver's License or the ability to obtain one by first day of employmentAbility to work flexible schedules, extended hours, nights, weekends, and/or overtime (scheduled or ad hoc)Supplemental education is defined as completing a minimum of 30 quarter or 20 semester units of coursework from an accredited college emphasizing science and engineering such as those listed with a mix of no less than three areas (transcripts required for verification): Physics, Principles of Electricity, Chemistry, Statics, Surveying, Dynamics, Math (including trigonometry and basic calculus); an EIT certificate satisfies supplemental educationDesiredConstruction or surveying experiencePrevious experience with SAP, scheduling, Electric Construction Field ExperienceAbility to demonstrate intermediate Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, and Office skills6 months of previous electric construction backgroundExperience in electric clearance submittals to Distribution OperationsEngineer In Training (EIT) certificateAutoCAD or hand draft skills, preferably bothAbility to demonstrate strong math and computer skills, strong written and verbal communication, and an attention to detailAdditional consideration may be given to candidates who reside within 50 miles of the headquarters
