Target ratios are 1:6 with a daily census of 42. Contract staff will be assigned and expected to work a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team. Contract staff may be required to report to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster. Contract staff may be preassigned to units as needed.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide nursing care for inpatients with general medical-surgical diagnoses and cancer history in a 42-bed unitAdminister chemotherapy and biotherapy via IV, PO, or injectionPerform colostomy care, access ports, and manage blood product administrationManage central line blood draws, peripheral line care, and PICC line managementAdminister medications including heparin and insulin infusionsManage surgical drains and chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)Maintain nasal cannula and non-invasive airway managementImplement isolation precautions and provide wound care/wound vac managementFloat to similar units and alternate care locations with inpatient census, including inpatient holding in the ED and other medical patient care locationsWork every other weekend as requiredRespond to call requirements if called off on a prescheduled shift; call offs could result in shift cancellation and DNR (Do Not Return)Attend monthly staff meetingsParticipate in Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team assignments and respond during catastrophic events, mass casualty situations, or disasters as requiredBe available for consolidation to centralized office mid-contract with preassignment to units as neededRequired SkillsExperience in an inpatient settingMed-surg nursingColostomy careAccessing portsBlood product administrationCentral line blood drawPeripheral line care and managementPICC line managementHeparin administrationInsulin administrationSurgical drain managementChest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac)Nasal cannulaNon-invasive airway managementIsolation precautionsWound care and wound vac managementChemotherapy administration (if needed)BLS certificationONC (Oncology) certificationPreferred SkillsCPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certificationCharge nurse experienceOCN (Oncology Certified Nurse) certificationEducation RequirementsRN License (current and valid)ONC (Oncology) Certification requiredBLS (Basic Life Support) Certification requiredRequired ExperienceMinimum 2 years of nursing experienceExperience in an inpatient setting requiredFirst-time travelers acceptedWork Environment / Physical RequirementsEvery other weekend requiredFloating required to similar units and alternate care locationsCall requirement: call required if called off on a prescheduled shiftContract staff assigned to Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team with potential requirement to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty situations, or disastersRTO (Request Time Off) after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite; call offs or additional RTO on unit may result in shift cancellation and DNRNavy blue and white scrubs requiredUnit systems: PYXIS, EPIC, SBAROrientation: 24 hours (2 shifts)Make-up shifts required for shifts called outMonthly staff meeting attendance requiredImportant NotesMust pass EKG testing prior to start for this specialtyChemotherapy certification not required but ability to administer chemotherapy if needed is requiredPatients will present with diagnoses including AKI, sepsis, cancer, septic shock, pain, overdose, malignant neoplasms, acute respiratory failure, encephalopathy, failure to thrive, diabetic foot ulcers, and heparin dripsDuring times of increased census, typical ratios may be higher than the target 1:6 ratioContract staff will be assigned equally to home unit staff to ensure patient coverageAbout GTTGTT is a minority-owned staffing firm and a subsidiary of Chenega Corporation, a Native American-owned company in Alaska.
