You will perform a full range of nuclear medicine procedures in both inpatient and outpatient settings, working closely with radiologists, cardiologists, and other healthcare professionals. A typical day includes preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals, performing general nuclear imaging and SPECT or SPECT/CT studies, conducting quality control on equipment, verifying orders, and ensuring accurate documentation in the electronic medical record and PACS. You will also educate patients and families about procedures, address questions, and help alleviate concerns to create a positive experience.The nuclear medicine service generally supports a diverse patient population, including adult, geriatric, and occasionally pediatric patients, with a mix of routine and urgent studies. Common exams may include bone scans, lung scans, thyroid imaging, hepatobiliary studies, GI bleeding scans, renal imaging, and cardiac stress imaging where offered. Patient volumes are designed to allow for thorough, careful work and attention to safety, while still offering a dynamic and engaging environment. You will follow established radiation safety and infection control policies, perform daily, weekly, and monthly quality checks, and participate in ongoing accreditation and quality improvement activities.Shift options typically include daytime hours with some variation based on department needs, which may involve occasional on-call, evening, or weekend coverage to support patient care. Schedules are generally structured to promote work-life balance, with support from experienced technologists and radiology leadership.
