POSITION PURPOSE: Police Cadets areuniformed civilian employees who serve in an apprentice-style programdesigned to prepare them for a career as a Racine Police Officer. Dutiesinclude administrative and clerical functions within our CommunityOriented Policing Unit, Patrol Division, administrative support, andInvestigations. The assignments are widely varied so that the PoliceCadet can experience a broad range of operational and administrativefunctions. The Police Cadet will be vital in department youth outreachand assisting in the organization of the Racine Police Department\'sYouth Cadet Program. Note: This position will remain open andapplications will be accepted on a continuous basis until the positionis filled. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Answering and directing phone calls.Assisting citizens via telephone, online, and in-person. Operation ofdepartment issued radio. Assist in facilitation of Racine PoliceDepartment Youth Cadets youth program. Performingadministrative/clerical duties such as typing, filing, data entry.Assisting with special projects as assigned. Plan, organize and executea community engagement project. Engage with the community to buildpositive relationships, assist in community events, and support outreachprograms. Create engaging and relevant content for social mediaPlatform(s). Perform Other Duties And Responsibilities As Required,assigned, or requested. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Office and communityenvironments. PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE POSITION: Standing, walking,sitting, and stooping. Kneeling, crouching, climbing, balancing andbending/twisting. Reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling (20 to 35lbs.). Handling, grasping, fingering, filing, typing, and writing.EQUIPMENT USED: Effective utilization of computer workstation, radios,and telephone. Grade pointaverage of 2.0 or above and maintained throughout program. Must be acitizen of the United States. Must possess a valid State of Wisconsindriver\'s license within one year of date of hire. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS ANDABILITIES REQUIRED: Physically able to perform Police Cadet - andeventually Police Officer - training and job duties. Must demonstrateexcellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrable socialnetworking experience. Ability to communicate effectively with a diversepopulation, in-person, via telephone, and in writing. Ability tomaintain st ict confidentiality; ability to exercise sound judgment andwork independently.
