Tractor Operator.
DutiesThis is aResponsible for safe operation and use of equipment in accomplishment of tasks necessary. The incumbent will operate a variety of equipment including, but not limited to, tractor and utility type tractors with limited number of powered and non-powered attachments (mower blade, small scrape blade, lawn seeder-fertilizer, leaf mulcher, aerator, mulcher, and other attachments) pickup trucks, excavator, backhoe, dumpers, utility vehicles, skid steer, spreaders, aerial bucket lifts, forklifts, power pressure washers, and augers. Incumbent will be responsible for the safe operation of all equipment over varied terrain. Power equipment used may include compressors, generators, jackhammers, rock washers, drills, chain saws, rototillers, sod-cutters, etc. Operates licensed vehicles on public roadways to pick up and/or delivers supplies and equipment. Drives a variety of equipment which has an assortment of towed or attached accessories powered by take-off, hydraulic pumps or by direct drive from wheels. The operator must maneuver around headstones, markers, trees, shrubs, and other obstacles. Vehicles are driven within the cemetery in both the developed and undeveloped areas over rough and uneven terrain. In the operation of the above vehicles or equipment, the incumbent would transport personnel, equipment, and supplies to various work areas for performing assigned job tasks. Also uses hand tools such as shovels, rakes, picks, pry bars, hand tampers, sanders, and wheelbarrows. Performs first echelon operator's maintenance on assigned equipment, such as checking oil, checking water, tire pressure, and grease fittings. Reports any needed major repairs or safety problems immediately to supervisors or Director. Performs minor repairs to vehicles and equipment. Cleans equipment daily. Must obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.Work schedule: May be required to work Monday through Friday to include occasional weekends. Due to the mission of the National Cemetery, the cemetery cannot be closed for more than 2 consecutive days at any given time. Additionally, when a Federal holiday falls on a Monday or Friday, staff may be required to work on that holiday or a Saturday. All staff is required to work Memorial Day each year. Staff will be required to work overtime, weekends and holidays when necessary to meet the needs of the cemetery. Work requires prolonged standing, walking, frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, pushing, and exposure to vibration and jolting caused by movement of equipment over undulating terrain. Employee is required to lift objects in excess of 100 pounds and lowering objects weighing over 150 pounds.Working Conditions: Duties are performed outside, where the incumbent is subjected to extreme weather conditions. Incumbent is subjected to normal hazards of cemetery operations involving rough terrain and operation of power equipment. There is a chance of minor injuries such as bruises, cuts, and scrapes. Incumbent is exposed to noise, vibration, dirt, dust, exhaust fumes, and agricultural chemicals. Employee may be exposed to noise levels exceeding 85dBA for up to eight hours a day. This exposure may adversely affect hearing. The wearing of hearing protection devices that will curtail the noise levels to 85dBA or below is mandatory while operating equipment. It is mandatory to participate in the cemetery safety program.
