This role is suited for a licensed professional with strong technical expertise and demonstrated project management experience. The successful candidate will lead HVAC system design for complex projects, manage project delivery, mentor staff, and serve as a key point of contact for clients.Key Responsibilities And DutiesLead the engineering design of HVAC systems for commercial, institutional, municipal, healthcare, and industrial facilitiesServe as Project Manager on assigned projects, responsible for scope, schedule, budget, and overall project deliveryDevelop project work plans, staffing plans, and fee estimatesManage client relationships, including regular communication, meetings, and presentationsOversee and perform load calculations, equipment sizing, system selection, and energy analysisDirect the preparation and review of construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and detailsCoordinate HVAC designs with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and controls disciplinesProvide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and designersEnsure designs meet applicable codes, standards, and quality expectationsReview shop drawings, RFIs, and submittals; provide responses during constructionParticipate in construction administration, including site visits, punch walks, and system commissioning supportSupport business development efforts, including proposals, client development, and project pursuitsStay current with industry standards, codes, and emerging HVAC technologiesEssential QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field8–15+ years of HVAC engineering experience in an engineering consulting environmentActive Professional Engineer (PE) license requiredDemonstrated experience in project management, including managing scope, schedule, budget, and client expectationsStrong working knowledge of ASHRAE standards and guidelines, IMC, IECC, and applicable state/local mechanical codesCommercial HVAC systems (VAV, hydronic systems, chilled water, boilers, heat pumps, VRF, DOAS, etc.)Proficiency with HVAC design and analysis software, such as AutoCAD and/or RevitLoad calculation and energy modeling tools (e.g., Trace, HAP, IES, EnergyPlus)Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple concurrent projectsStrong communication, organizational, and leadership skillsHigh attention to detail and commitment to qualityPreferred QualificationsExperience managing large or complex projects across multiple market sectorsFamiliarity with energy-efficient design, electrification, or decarbonization strategiesExperience with commissioning or existing building system upgradesBackground in public-sector or municipal projectsWho We AreBetter Places.
