GIS Technician 2-Year Contract | South Plainfield, NJ | On-sitePay Rate: $30/hr W2 no benefitsOur client is a leading utilities provider dedicated to maintaining reliable electric distribution systems. This GIS Technician role focuses on supporting the accuracy and integrity of geospatial data used in the construction, operation, and maintenance of electric utility infrastructure.GIS Technician ResponsibilitiesMaintain and update the GIS-connected model using data from work orders, as-built drawings, and field reportsPerform data analysis and generate reports, maps, and visualizations for operational and planning needsProduce standard and custom map outputs for field teams and internal stakeholdersManage service point data and relationships to source transformers within the GIS systemTrack lifecycle data for utility assets, including inspections, history, and attachmentsResolve discrepancies in mapping, connectivity, and land records through office or field investigationSupport major projects such as facility relocations, load rearrangements, and new service installationsPerform manual and computer-aided drafting (GIS/CAD) and maintain accurate documentationOperate office equipment and assist with field or plant work as needed (approx. 5 10% fieldwork)GIS Technician QualificationsRequired:1 2 years of GIS experience (academic, internship, or professional)Strong understanding of GIS applications, spatial data relationships, and mapping principlesProficiency in MS Office and Windows-based toolsValid driver s license and ability to travel to various New Jersey work sitesPreferred:Experience with MicroStation or AutoCADExposure to electric utility transmission and distribution systemsAbility to interpret technical manuals, safety standards, and operational documentationThis GIS Technician opportunity is ideal for early-career professionals or recent graduates with GIS experience looking to grow within the utilities industry.
