Korn Ferry has partnered with our client on their search for an Industrial Product and Petrochem Accounting Supervisor.Company OverviewOur client is a large, well established U.S. refining and energy supply organization with multiple refineries, terminals, pipelines, and related infrastructure assets across the United StatesHeadquartered in Houston, TX, the company operates a significant crude refining footprint and employs several thousand professionals across refining, supply and trading, commercial, and corporate functionsThe organization is known for its strong operational discipline, long term stability, and commitment to values such as safety, integrity, accountability, and collaborationThe company continues to invest in modern technology platforms, including enterprise ETRM systems, to enhance data driven decision making, risk management, and financial analytics across the businessRole SummaryTitle: Accounting Supervisor – Industrial Products & PetrochemicalsDepartment: Controller’s Organization – Refining AccountingTeam Scope: Lead and mentor accounting analysts supporting industrial products and petrochemical transactions across multiple refinery locations and Supply & TradingPrimary Focus: Oversee accounting, financial reporting, inventory analysis, and process improvement for industrial products and petrochemical activity across refining operationsKey ResponsibilitiesSupervise day-to-day accounting activities related to industrial products and petrochemical purchases, sales, exchanges, and processing agreementsEnsure timely and accurate financial reporting of all transactions across Lake Charles, Corpus Christi, and Lemont refineries, as well as Supply & Trading operationsOversee inventory accounting and reconciliation processes, including in-transit inventory, third-party storage, and refinery-level balancesAnalyze general ledger accounts, accruals, purchase and sales activity, inventory balances, freight, and intercompany transactions to ensure completeness and accuracyLead monthly close activities, including journal entries in SAP and volumetric postings in RightAngleSupervise and review key accounting processes such as LIFO costing (petcoke, butane), accruals, profit center allocations, and reconciliationsProvide financial analysis and insights to support Industrial Products Supply and Petrochemicals business unitsSupport cash forecasting activities, including daily billing and payment projections with a rolling 60-day outlookEstablish, maintain, and enforce internal controls and accounting guidelines to ensure compliance and accuracyIdentify gaps in current accounting practices and recommend improvements to ensure alignment with GAAPInterpret accounting guidance and assess the impact of transactions on financial statements, cash flow, and debt covenantsPartner cross-functionally with operations, supply and trading, and finance teams to support business performance and reporting needsMentor and develop accounting staff, reviewing work and providing guidance on complex accounting and reporting issuesIdeal Candidate ProfileBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required8+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, preferably within refining, oil & gas, or petrochemical environmentsStrong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirementsExperience supervising or mentoring accounting staffProven ability to perform detailed financial analysis and interpret operational resultsExperience with SAP required; RightAngle experience strongly preferredAdvanced Excel skills including lookups, pivot tables, and data analysisStrong understanding of inventory accounting, accruals, and complex transaction flowsAbility to work independently, prioritize multiple projects, and operate with limited supervisionStrong problem-solving mindset with ability to research issues and propose solutionsExcellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to collaborate across functionsCompensation & BenefitsTarget base compensation range: Market rate and flexibility based on experienceBonus: 10–20% annual performance incentiveBenefits Package: Medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and standard corporate benefitsWork Environment: In-office, fast-paced, operations-focused environment supporting critical refining activitiesSelling PointsHigh-impact supervisory role supporting multiple refineries and a complex supply and trading organizationStrong exposure to operational finance, inventory accounting, and commodity-based transactionsOpportunity to work within a sophisticated, large-scale refining environment with complex accounting challengesVisibility across both corporate finance and business unit operationsOpportunity to lead process improvements, strengthen controls, and influence accounting practices at scaleIdeal for candidates looking to step into a leadership role within a structured, high-performance accounting organizationSE: 510793292
