Accountant
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Accountant will work to advance the diplomatic mission of the Embassy of the State of Qatar in the United States by providing direct support to its defense branch in Washington, DC. Success in this role requires demonstrated knowledge and experience in every aspect of governmental accounting, compliance, and reporting within a complex, fast-paced, and performance-driven environment. The Accountant will work under the guidance of- and report directly to the Defense Attaché for Finance in the Accounting Department of the Qatar Defense Attaché Office.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND EXPECTATIONS:
The Accountant will contribute to the strategic direction and mission of The Embassy of the State of Qatar’s Defense Attaché Office in a variety of ways, including but not limited to:
Performing financial statement preparation and consolidation, internal control maintenance, and regulatory reporting;
Assisting with the auditing of financial reports and procedures;
Working with partners to ensure compliance with corporate accounting policies, procedures, and controls and provide support on special requests;
Adherence to continuously improving the automation of the accounting and reporting process;
Providing analysis on financial results (trends, performance metrics, benchmarks);
Coordinating ad-hoc projects as necessary;
Allocating and preparing monthly consolidated analysis reports for diplomats and counterparts in Doha.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field such as business administration or finance;
No less than 3 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in diplomatic, agency, nonprofit, and/or public policy settings.
The applicant’s qualifications will be evaluated based on their level of competency in the following areas:
Demonstrated intermediate to advanced skills in- and knowledge of Microsoft Excel, as well as other Microsoft applications;
Experience utilizing accounting software such as Beanworks and QuickBooks;
Thorough knowledge of general ledger accounting;
Excellent interpersonal skills to ensure effective communication across the Mission;
Fluency in Arabic and English is required.
