Tech Lead - Software Engineer

Software Engineering Technical Lead – Python/AWSCharlotte, NC OR Raleigh, NCHybrid, Onsite Tuesday–Thursday$70 - $85 per hourAbout The RoleOur client is seeking an experienced Software Engineering Technical Lead to provide technical direction and architectural leadership for a growing engineering team focused on new application development, backend services, and enterprise application integrations. This is a hands-on technical leadership role for someone who can balance architecture, execution, and engineering leadership. The Technical Lead will work closely with software engineers, product leadership, and technical partners to take incoming features from initial requirements through technical design and successful delivery. The ideal candidate is an experienced backend engineer and technical leader who can manage multiple workstreams simultaneously, make sound architectural decisions, translate those decisions into actionable development work, and stay close enough to the code to help engineers solve complex technical problems. Success in this role means providing clear technical direction, keeping development moving across multiple initiatives, ensuring well-defined designs and actionable work for engineers, and addressing technical blockers quickly while balancing immediate delivery needs with long-term scalability and maintainability.What You'll DoProvide technical leadership and architectural direction across multiple concurrent application development and integration initiativesOwn technical design decisions and ensure solutions are scalable, secure, reliable, and maintainableEvaluate incoming features, determine technical approach, scope development efforts, and translate designs into clear epics and stories for engineering executionPartner closely with developers throughout implementation, helping troubleshoot challenges, remove technical blockers, and keep delivery movingLead technical design reviews and communicate architectural decisions, tradeoffs, and solution strategy to both technical and non-technical stakeholdersDesign and guide development of backend services, APIs, microservices, and enterprise application integrationsEstablish effective patterns for API design, event-driven architecture, data contracts, and system integrationsRemain hands-on with backend development, primarily using Python, FastAPI, and AWSProvide technical leadership around Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure, deployments, and environment managementGuide solutions utilizing technologies such as AWS Lambda, ECS Fargate, Kafka, Aurora/PostgreSQL, and DynamoDBSupport streaming and batch integration patterns while partnering with data engineering teams as neededParticipate in production support and on-call responsibilities, including technical escalation, root cause analysis, and resiliency improvementsMentor engineers through technical coaching, design guidance, and code reviewsPromote strong engineering practices, documentation, accountability, and operational ownershipWhat You Bring8+ years of software engineering experience, with a focus on backend, platform, application integration, or distributed systems developmentPrevious experience serving as a Technical Lead, Lead Software Engineer, Staff/Principal Engineer, or architecture ownerStrong hands-on Python development experience, particularly within backend applications and servicesDeep experience designing and developing cloud-native solutions within AWSDemonstrated experience owning technical architecture and system design, including the ability to communicate design decisions around scalability, security, reliability, and maintainabilityExperience leading developers through technical execution, including requirements analysis, solution design, work breakdown, code reviews, troubleshooting, and deliveryAbility to successfully lead and prioritize multiple technical projects or workstreams simultaneouslyExperience designing REST APIs, microservices, distributed systems, and/or enterprise application integrationsHands-on experience with Terraform and CI/CD pipelinesExperience supporting production systems and participating in on-call or incident-response activitiesStrong communication skills and the ability to influence technical decisions across engineering and product teamsPreferred: Experience with Kafka, event-driven architecture, FastAPI, AWS Lambda, ECS Fargate, Aurora/PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, streaming/batch processing, AWS Glue, PySpark, Route 53, AWS load balancing, platform/shared-service architecture, enterprise SaaS/ERP/CRM integrations, Redshift, and data warehousing conceptsDisclaimerBrooksource, Medasource, and Calculated Hire are part of the Eight Eleven Group family of companies and operate under Eight Eleven Group, LLC.
