Controller, Financial Operations

About the RoleOur client, a 200-person global fintech organization, is seeking a Controller of Financial Operations to join their team in New York, NY. In this role, you will be building out its financial operations function from scratch. This is a standalone, individual contributor role with a clear path to building and leading a team as the business scales. The ideal candidate is a hands-on operator who has worked inside a lean, high-growth environment and knows how to deliver without a large support structure. You will own the full breadth of financial operations, including close, invoicing, AP/AR, payroll, and expense management, while actively improving the processes and systems that sit behind each of them. ResponsibilitiesOwn the monthly close calendar across multiple global entities, including accruals, prepayments, deferrals, and balance sheet reconciliationsOversee preparation, review, and posting of all journal entries with full audit trail and controls documentationManage end-to-end invoicing across entities, including intercompany billing, reconciliation, and eliminationLead cash application and collections, managing AR aging, DSO targets, and dispute resolutionRun the full AP cycle including invoice processing, approvals, vendor payments, and three-way matchingOversee global payroll operations across jurisdictions, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and clean GL reconciliationManage T&E and corporate card programs, including policy enforcement and spend analysisDrive systems and process improvements across the finance stack, with a focus on automation and close cycle reductionQualifications10-15 years in financial operations or accounting, including meaningful experience at a smaller or high-growth firmFintech, SaaS, or financial services background strongly preferredDemonstrated ownership across financial close, AP/AR, payroll, and invoicing in a multi-entity environmentHands-on experience with ERP systems, expense platforms and payroll systemsExperience building scalable processes and in-depth knowledge of internal controlsCPA or Master's Degree in Accounting preferredExposure to AI or automation toolsClear communicator with the ability to work cross-functionally across global, distributed teams
