Outdoor Program Coordinator/Educator
Heartwood provides opportunities for children and families to learn through direct experience, while hiking, playing and exploring at Saint Edward State Park in Kenmore, WA. Our educators act as mentors, role models, and guides for the children as they spark engagement, create connections, and learn alongside the children each day. The Program Coordinator/Educator role will co-teach weekly classes in our 10-month nature programs and summer camps, as well as be on our program coordination and development team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Educator
Lead and co-lead programs
Plan and organize curriculum in alignment with weekly themes
Actively integrate participation, compassion, thought, and informed action to build a supportive learning community
Perform daily and ongoing site risk assessments
Responsible for the safety and health of the children, ensuring they are in dry clothes and providing first aid care as needed
Send out weekly newsletters to families
Parent communication
Team meetings
Other duties as assigned
Program Coordinator
Substitute as needed
Participate in forest school staff meetings and activities
Provide support to educators through training and day to day support
Source and support Coast Salish educational resources and trainings
Assist in the creation and maintenance of documents and forms
Organize, deliver and maintain class materials, supplies and resources
Coordinate with colleagues in program planning and implementation
Develop positive relationships with partner organizations
Social media posts
Website - Regularly check for accuracy and update as needed
Grants - research and assist in writing available grants
Utilize Microsoft Office for communication and planning
Community engagement through work parties and other gatherings
Support Executive Director as needed

Qualifications

Working cell phone
Current CPR & First Aid Certification Adult/Child, (Wilderness first aid a plus)
Valid Driver’s license and insurance
Clear criminal background check
Ability to lift 50lbs
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, stand on feet up to 4 hours, hike on uneven terrain.
Hours: 20+ hours per week during school-year, dependent upon availability and schedule, and 40 hours per week during summer camp.
Pay: start $21+ per hour, depending upon experience
Days: Monday-Friday, depending upon your availability
Contract through mid-August is required. Start date is asap
