Operations Manager
Position Overview
The Operations Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing all commercial electrical construction operations across multiple projects. This executive-level role drives operational excellence in safety, quality, productivity, financial performance, and workforce development. The Operations Manager ensures successful execution of high-voltage, lighting, life safety, security, communications, and low-voltage systems while aligning field performance with company growth strategy and client expectations.
This role serves as the operational leader bridging preconstruction, project management, field execution, accounting, safety, and executive leadership to ensure consistency, profitability, and scalable growth.
Compensation: $40/hr-$55/hr, growth opportunity for Director of Operations.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership & Oversight
Lead and oversee electrical construction operations across multiple commercial projects from preconstruction through closeout.
Ensure compliance with contract documents, electrical codes, safety standards, and company policies.
Drive operational excellence in safety, quality, productivity, and cost control for all electrical scopes.
Establish and enforce standardized operating procedures and best practices across all projects.
Oversee installation and integration of:
High-voltage power distribution and switchgear
Lighting and lighting control systems
Fire alarm and life safety systems
Security and access control systems
Communications, data, and low-voltage infrastructure
Coordinate with general contractors, architects, engineers, and clients to ensure seamless project execution.
Project Controls & Systems Management
Oversee development and management of:
Master project schedules (critical path, dependencies, phasing)
Look-ahead schedules and manpower forecasts
Procurement tracking (quotes, POs, delivery verification)
Oversight of RFI, submittal, and change order execution
Labor tracking and productivity reporting
Implement and standardize project management tools (Smartsheet, MS Project, Excel dashboards, Procore, etc.).
Build real-time executive dashboards tracking:
Earned value
Budget performance
Schedule adherence
Safety metrics
Material status
Lead automation of workflows, approvals, document routing, and reporting.
Train Project Managers, Superintendents, and Coordinators on company-wide standards for data tracking and reporting.
Financial Performance & Margin Management
Monitor project financial performance including:
Budgets and forecasts
Cost-to-complete analysis
Productivity metrics
Gross margin protection
Partner with accounting to ensure accurate cost coding and financial reporting.
Lead weekly operational reviews focusing on earned value, budget performance, manpower, and procurement status.
Resolve escalated project issues, change orders, and claim impacting financial performance.
Support risk reviews during preconstruction and ensure smooth handoffs from estimating to operations.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
Ensure full compliance with OSHA, NEC, NFPA, and local building codes.
Partner with safety and quality teams to drive best-in-class field practices.
Oversee QA/QC programs for conduit routing, terminations, equipment installation, and system commissioning.
Ensure proper documentation and certification for fire alarm, security, and life safety systems.
Promote a proactive safety culture across all job sites.
Leadership & Workforce Development
Lead, mentor, and develop Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, and Project Coordinators.
Support manpower forecasting and resource planning across projects.
Foster accountability, communication, and operational discipline.
Identify training needs and implement workforce development initiatives.
Support succession planning and internal leadership growth.
Business Strategy & Growth Support
Collaborate with business development to provide operational input on proposals and client engagement.
Support bid reviews and preconstruction planning to ensure executable scopes and realistic budgets.
Identify and implement process improvements, technology advancements, and operational efficiencies.
Drive scalability by building repeatable systems and operational standards.
Qualifications
OSHA 30 Certification required.
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or related field preferred.
7+ years of experience managing large-scale commercial electrical construction projects ($15M–$50M+ preferred).
Strong knowledge of:
High-voltage infrastructure
Fire alarm integration (NFPA 70/72)
Security and access control systems
Low-voltage cabling systems
Advanced proficiency in Smartsheet, MS Project, Excel (formulas, dashboards, automation workflows).
Strong understanding of NEC, NFPA, and OSHA standards.
Demonstrated leadership and team development experience.
Proven financial and operational management skills.
Compensation
$40–$75 per hour depending on experience
