Job OverviewUS Cannalytics is seeking a Microbiologist who is looking for a challenging position in an independent, state-licensed testing laboratory serving the Michigan cannabis market. The successful candidate will be reliable, exhibit strong attention to detail, and thrive in a fast-paced, production-driven laboratory environment.This role is responsible for executing state-mandated microbiological testing while maintaining strict compliance with SOPs, ISO requirements, and state regulations. The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience organizing and performing high-volume, multi-assay microbiological workflows to meet laboratory production demands. This includes preparation of test samples and quality controls for molecular and culture-based methods, supporting environmental monitoring activities, maintaining inventory and documentation, and working collaboratively to meet established turnaround times and quality standards.This position is also responsible for daily laboratory maintenance, compliant documentation, and providing technical expertise to laboratory personnel.Experience in an environmental, public health, food science, or other regulated laboratory environment is preferred.This is a full-time, in-lab position based in Warren, MI.Minimum QualificationsMust be 21 years of age or olderBachelor's degree in a natural science (biology, chemistry, environmental sciences, or related field)Must pass criminal background checkAt least 1 year of professional experience with culture-based microbiology methodsAt least 1 year of professional experience with molecular genetic techniques (qPCR/PCR)Strong working knowledge of aseptic techniqueAbility to communicate effectively with both scientific and non-scientific staffStrong attention to detail and ability to work independently and collaborativelyEssential DutiesResponsible for cannabis sample tracking and destructionResponsible for accurate measurement and documentation of product weightsPrepare samples for microbiological assays and testing using aseptic techniqueExecute microbiological testing according to SOPs and state testing requirementsAnalyze data from testing and submit to the Laboratory Director or designeeReview, document, and approve microbiological testing results and quality controls in the laboratory information management system (LIMS)Perform area and instrument cleaning, maintenance, and calibration, including compliant documentation of associated logsEnsure all SOPs, state regulations, and safety requirements are followed when handling potentially infectious material and biohazardous wasteAssist in developing methods to quantitate and identify microorganisms in cannabis productsPerform or assist in instrument qualification and validationsPerform proficiency testing, including documentation and submissionDevelop and maintain microbial cultures for studyProvide recommendations to improve microbial assay workflow and turnaround timeMaintain current technical knowledge and support microbiology-related questions from laboratory personnelPerform all other duties as assigned, which may include cannabis samplingFollow company SOPs, all rules, regulations, and laws for the transportation of items for medical marijuana testingWorks in a timely manner, strives to improve quality and maintain accuracy.Employees are expected to exercise reasonable discretion in the performance of their duties.Work EnvironmentThe work environment characteristics described below are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
