Controller / Assistant ControllerSchedule: Hybrid (Tuesday-Thursday onsite) | 8:30 AM - 5:30 PMOverviewVaco is working with a client to hire a Controller / Assistant Controller to lead day-to-day accounting operations and help scale a growing, multi-entity business. This is a high-impact, hands-on leadership role ideal for a CPA who enjoys improving processes, strengthening controls, and delivering accurate, timely financial reporting.You'll partner closely with the SVP of Accounting and play a key role in driving operational efficiency, owning the close process, and supporting audits and compliance across multiple entities and jurisdictions.What You'll DoFinancial Close & ReportingOwn the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes end-to-endEnsure accurate, timely financial statements and supporting schedulesReview (and occasionally prepare) journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and account analysesEstablish clear close calendars, deadlines, and accountability across the teamIdentify and implement ways to shorten close cycles without sacrificing accuracyAccounting OperationsOversee general ledger activity across multiple entitiesEnsure compliance with U.S. GAAP and internal accounting policiesProvide guidance on complex accounting transactionsMaintain and enhance internal controls and proceduresSupport cash management, treasury, and financial complianceAudit & ComplianceLead coordination of external audits and financial reviewsServe as primary contact for auditors, tax advisors, banks, and regulatorsPrepare audit schedules and technical documentationAssist with state filings, registrations, and compliance requirementsSupport tax processes in partnership with external providersTeam LeadershipManage and develop Accounts Payable and Staff Accountant resourcesReview work for accuracy, completeness, and compliancePrioritize workload and ensure timely execution of recurring responsibilitiesDrive coaching, cross-training, and team developmentFoster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvementProcess Improvement & SystemsIdentify inefficiencies and implement scalable, automated processesDrive improvements in workflows and reportingPartner with operations to improve data quality and insightsSupport ERP enhancements and system implementations (NetSuite)Required QualificationsActive CPA licenseBachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance7+ years of progressive accounting experienceProven ownership of month-end and year-end closeExperience leading or coordinating external auditsStrong knowledge of U.S. GAAPExperience in multi-entity and multi-state environmentsAdvanced NetSuite and Excel skillsDemonstrated success improving processes and controlsPreferredBackground in public accountingExperience in private equity-backed companiesExposure to acquisitions, integrations, or consolidationsWhat Makes You SuccessfulYou think strategically but aren't afraid to roll up your sleevesYou're highly organized and process-drivenYou're detail-oriented while staying practical and efficientYou can manage multiple priorities without compromising qualityYou proactively identify and solve problems in a fast-paced environmentWhy This RoleVisible, high-impact position with leadership exposureOpportunity to build and optimize processes in a growing organizationCollaborative environment with strong partnership across finance and operationsDetermining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco/Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual's skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs.
