Position: LPKC Railroad SwitchmanJob Type: Full-TimeLocation: Edgerton, KSPay Rate: $60,000/yearStart Date: ASAP Position OverviewThe Railroad Switchman plays a key role in the safe and efficient movement of railcars throughout the terminal. Responsibilities include operating track switches, inspecting rail conditions, coupling and uncoupling railcars, and maintaining strict adherence to railroad safety procedures. This is a hands-on, outdoor role requiring physical stamina, attention to detail, and strong safety awareness. Day-to-Day Responsibilities:Operate and monitor track switches for proper railcar routingInspect tracks and switch points for safe operationCouple and uncouple air hoses between railcarsReplace damaged railcar connectors (up to 75 lbs)Communicate with train crews and yard personnel regarding rail movementsFollow all PPE and railroad safety proceduresMaintain awareness in a high-traffic rail environmentMust-Have Qualifications:FRA Certification required2-3 years of railroad experience preferred (switching or conductor experience)Strong commitment to safety procedures and complianceReliable, punctual, and strong work ethicAbility to work outdoors in all weather conditionsAbility to lift up to 75 lbsAbility to climb ladders and stairs on and off railcarsMust pass background check, physical, and drug screeningOpen availability to work various schedulesPreferred QualificationsPrevious rail yard or switching operations experienceKnowledge of rail safety protocols and proceduresRailcar or track maintenance training is a plus
