Assistant Bookkeeper
Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Assistant Bookkeeper to support our accounting team. The ideal candidate will assist with maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and reconciling accounts using various accounting software. This role offers an opportunity to gain valuable experience in corporate, non-profit, and governmental accounting environments, working closely with senior accountants to ensure compliance with GAAP standards and financial best practices.
Duties
Assist with general ledger accounting, including journal entries, account analysis, and ledger reconciliation
Perform bank reconciliations and account reconciliations to ensure accuracy of financial data
Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes efficiently
Prepare financial reports and summaries for management review
Support payroll processing and related tax filings
Enter data accurately using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, Quicken, and other financial software tools
Conduct balance sheet reconciliation and double-entry bookkeeping tasks
Assist with budgeting activities and financial concept analysis
Maintain detailed records of transactions in compliance with GAAP and other regulatory standards
Support internal audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations
Requirements
Proven experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, Quicken, or similar platforms
Strong understanding of accounting principles including GAAP, double-entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, and general ledger reconciliation
Familiarity with governmental, non-profit, or corporate accounting practices is preferred
Experience with bank reconciliation, account analysis, journal entries, and financial report writing
Knowledge of payroll processing and tax-related procedures is a plus
Ability to perform 10 key typing accurately for data entry tasks
Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in maintaining accurate financial records
Strong analytical skills to interpret financial data effectively
Ability to work independently while collaborating within a team environment
Prior experience in public accounting or financial software proficiency is desirable
