Accountant (year-round)

Job DescriptionSummary of PositionNorth Cascades Institute seeks a qualified, detailed orientated individual to join our accounting team. This position is based at the Institute's administrative office in Sedro-Woolley (although remote work hours are possible). The Accountant is responsible for tracking the day-to-day financial activity; including Accounts Payable and Receivables (AP/AR), and provides support for administrative tasks. This position frequently works and communicates with North Cascades Institute's Directors, Managers and Coordinators. Working EnvironmentThe work is performed with extensive work at a computer workstation. The position requires occasional travel by car to other worksites or meeting places. Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to: Sit, talk, and hear, use hands and fingers to operate office equipment and files; reach with hands and arms. Occasional walking, bending and lifting and/or moving up to 40 pounds is required. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, close vision and the ability to adjust focus. ResponsibilitiesAccounting:Assist in operating the Institute as a not-for-profit business in compliance with IRS 501(c)(3) regulations, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and all applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations. Perform bookkeeping functions for the Institute: focusing on AP/AR, including internal allocations. This includes all mailing and filing of applicable bills/invoices. Receive and distribute bills from vendors, organize and manage payment timelines, and verify directors' expense coding. Utilize bank system for pre-authorization of check payments. Have checks signed and mailed (which may include some travel). Work closely with Retail Manager regarding all inventory purchases. Monthly bank reconciliation Assist with monthly and quarterly closing processes, including reconciliation to other Institute databases (i.e. SalesForce). Review participant data from "Salesforce", and enter into custom spreadsheets for internal allocations. Prepare and distribute monthly financial statements. Track and process vehicle, boat and trailer registrations, provide tabs and registration copies for vehicle managers. Enter annual budget into QuickBooks. Update various Excel spreadsheets tracking the Institutes financial activity, as assigned by Accounting Manager or Finance Director. Assist Finance Director with annual audit. FinanceAssist in monitoring cash flow. Assist Finance Director with annual budget as deemed necessary. Human Resources and AdministrativeMonitor health insurance payments. Maintain and coordinate archive/filing system for accounting. OtherMay be called upon to provide some support with retail inventory. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal skills. Required Experience:Knowledge of Financial Statements. Two years minimum work experience in an accounting position. Experience running database reports. Other Requirements:Valid driver's license and driving record check must have no more than one moving violation in the past three years, no DUI, reckless driving or serious moving violations, etc. Personal transportation for local travel to acquire signatures and drop off mail. Final offers of employment are contingent upon the successful completion of a background check that may include employment history, national criminal background check, national sex offender registry search and a driving history check. Job BenefitsCompensation - This is a regular, full-time (100%) non-exempt position scheduled 5 days/week. The pay rate is $28.85 to $30.77 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. Personal transportation is required.
