Public Transportation Security Officer

The Public Transportation Security Officer ensures the safety and security of passengers, employees, and assets across public transportation systems, including buses, trains, subways, and transit stations. This role involves monitoring safety protocols, enforcing regulations, responding to emergencies, and assisting with safety education initiatives to ensure the efficient operation of public transportation services. Key Responsibilities: Monitor Safety Compliance: Ensure adherence to safety regulations, protocols, and procedures within all public transportation systems. Patrol and Inspect: Regularly patrol transportation hubs, vehicles, and stations to detect and address safety concerns, hazards, or security breaches. Respond to Emergencies: Provide rapid and effective responses to accidents, security incidents, or safety emergencies. Coordinate with local law enforcement and emergency services as required. Safety Training & Education: Assist in the development and delivery of safety training programs for transit employees and public awareness campaigns for passengers. Investigate Incidents: Conduct thorough investigations into safety-related incidents, such as accidents, injuries, or security breaches, and prepare detailed reports for review. Enforce Safety Regulations: Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local safety regulations within public transportation environments. Risk Assessments: Perform regular risk assessments of transit operations, identifying potential hazards and recommending corrective actions. Public Interaction: Engage with passengers to provide safety information, answer questions, and address concerns related to security and safety on the transportation system. Reporting: Maintain detailed logs and reports of daily activities, safety checks, and incident responses for management review. Qualifications: Education: High school diploma or GED required; additional training or certification in public safety, transportation safety, or security is preferred. Experience: 1-3 years of experience in a safety, law enforcement, or public transportation role preferred. Knowledge: Familiarity with safety standards, transportation regulations, and emergency response procedures. Skills: Strong observational and problem-solving abilities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle emergencies efficiently. Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, respond quickly to emergencies, and perform basic physical tasks as necessary. Certifications: First Aid and CPR certification Safety Officer Training Program completion Driver License Work Environment: The Public Transportation Safety Officer works both indoors and outdoors, at various transit locations including buses, trains, platforms, and stations. The role may require working irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Job Type: Full-time Pay: $18.50 per hour Expected hours: 40 per week Schedule: 8 hour shift Morning shift On call Weekends as needed Experience: Customer service: 1 year (Preferred) License/Certification: Driver's License (Required) Work Location: In person
