Mid-Level DevSecOps Engineer (OpenShift Virtualization / Platform Engineering)
Job ID: 1205-383
Core4ce is seeking a mid-level DevSecOps Engineer with RedHat OpenShift experience, specifically focused on OpenShift Virtualization (OpenShift Virt), to support the evolution of our enterprise platform services. This role will enable the transition of workloads from traditional virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere) into OpenShift-based virtualized environments, maintaining VM-based workloads while modernizing platform operations. This position is not focused solely on containerization. Instead, the engineer will play a key role in migrating and operating virtual machines within OpenShift Virtualization, ensuring continuity of existing workloads while enabling a path toward modernization where appropriate. The selected candidate will work across infrastructure and platform teams to deliver a secure, automated, and scalable platform, aligned to DevSecOps and Zero Trust principles within a Defense Health Agency (DHA) environment.
Responsibilities
Support the design, deployment, and sustainment of RedHat OpenShift clusters, with a focus on OpenShift Virtualization (KubeVirt) capabilities
Collaborate with platform teams to migrate virtual machines from VMware vSphere into OpenShift Virtualization environments
Implement and manage VM lifecycle operations within OpenShift, including provisioning, scaling, patching, and backup integration
Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines supporting both VM-based and container-based workloads where applicable
Automate platform and infrastructure processes using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform)
Integrate security controls into platform pipelines and VM/image management processes (e.g., image hardening, vulnerability scanning)
Support platform observability and monitoring, including integration with enterprise tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk)
Ensure compliance with DoD RMF, DISA STIGs, and Zero Trust architecture requirements
Troubleshoot issues across virtualized workloads, OpenShift platform services, and supporting infrastructure
Collaborate within a Scaled Agile (SAFe) framework, supporting PI planning and iterative delivery
* This position is designed to be flexible, with responsibilities evolving to meet business needs and enable individual growth.
Required Qualifications
3–6 years of experience in DevOps/DevSecOps, platform engineering, or infrastructure engineering
Active Secret clearance (or ability to obtain)
DoD8570/8140 IAT LevelII certification (e.g., Security+CE) required or ability to obtain within 3 months
At least one related industry certification or the ability to obtain within 12 months, such as Microsoft Certified Azure Administrator, AWS Cloud Practitioner, or Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)
Hands‑on experience with RedHat OpenShift, including OpenShift Virtualization (OpenShift Virt / KubeVirt)
Demonstrated experience supporting or administering VMware vSphere environments
Experience with VM migration strategies and tooling, particularly migrations into OpenShift Virtualization
Proficiency with CI/CD tools (e.g., GitLabCI, Jenkins)
Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Ansible, Terraform, or similar)
Strong Linux system administration skills (RHEL preferred)
Experience implementing security practices within DevSecOps pipelines and VM environments
Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience within DoD, DHA, or federal government environments
Familiarity with KubeVirt architecture and VM orchestration within Kubernetes
Experience with hybrid VM/container platform operations within OpenShift
Knowledge of VM migration tooling (e.g., migration kits for virtualization, image conversion, data replication approaches)
Experience integrating with enterprise identity solutions (e.g., Keycloak, EntraID, mJAD)
Exposure to observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk)
Understanding of SAFe Agile practices and DevSecOps pipelines in regulated environments
