Java Software Engineer
Senior Java Developer (Spring Boot) | Remote | Contract (Nov 2026 – Mar 2027) About OUR CLIENTOUR CLIENT is a US-based non-profit healthcare organization that supports people with developmental disabilities and their families. They use technology to improve how care is delivered and accessed. You'll join a small, focused engineering team building a new initiative on a modern cloud-native stack. This is a full-time remote contract engagement through Second Talent.
The Role:
We're looking for a Senior Java Developer who can contribute from day one. You'll report to the Senior Software Architect and work with a lean, distributed team of about 5 people (Architect, UI, QA, PM) across APAC and the US.This is not a learning role. We need someone self-driven who owns their deliverables with minimal hand-holding.
What You'll Do:
- Design, build, and maintain backend services using Java and Spring BootBuild and document REST APIs (Spring REST, Swagger/OpenAPI, Postman)
- Work with relational databases: SQL, data modeling, and transaction handling
- Write unit and API tests using JUnit 5 and REST Assured
- Support manual UI testing and automated backend testing with the QA team
- Deploy and run services on AWS + Kubernetes, with infrastructure managed in Terraform
- Monitor and troubleshoot in production using Datadog
- Collaborate with the frontend team (React + TypeScript) on API integration
- Join weekly sprints: stand-ups, planning, demos, retros, and production deployments
Must-Have:
- 5+ years of professional Java backend development 3+ years of current, hands-on Spring Boot experience (Spring Data, Spring REST)
- Strong SQL and relational database experience, including transactions
- Experience writing tests with JUnit 5 (REST Assured is a plus)
- Hands-on experience with AWS and Kubernetes
- Comfortable working independently in a fast-moving Agile team
- Strong written and spoken English
Nice-to-Have
Terraform / Infrastructure as Code
Datadog or similar observability tools
Working knowledge of React + TypeScriptExperience in healthcare or the non-profit sector
Schedule & Contract
Contract period: November 1, 2026 – March 1, 2027 (~4 months, full-time)
Working hours:
You must be available during US working hours for daily stand-ups and Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, demos, retros, escalations, production deployments). Outside of these, you can work your own local hours, with daily code check-ins and reviews. • • Start: ASAP / November 1, 2026
