Position Type:Maintenance/Custodial - Support Staff/Custodian - Night ShiftDate Posted:4/22/2026Location:To be determined(High-Needs School)Date Available:To be DeterminedClosing Date:5/02/2026Custodian (Second Shift)REPORTS TO: School Building ChiefJOB GOAL: To perform maintenance and housecleaning jobs in and around the assigned buildings and grounds to insure that full educational use of the building/areas may be made at all times.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:High school diploma or equivalentDemonstrated ability to read, write, and do simple mathematicsValid driver's licenseExcellent work historyDemonstrated aptitude and competence for assigned responsibilitiesAbility to understand and follow oral and written instructionsAbility to physically lift up to at least 50 poundsDemonstrated trustworthiness, honesty, and dependabilityAbility to work independently and without close supervisionDemonstrated attitude of congeniality with strong interpersonal skills in dealing with students and adultsAbility to work a flexible work scheduleNeat and clean personal and professional appearance on the jobPERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:Takes orders and follows them through until completedKeeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and instructional areas neat, clean, and operable at all timesPerforms snow removal duties such as shoveling or plowing snow, spreading salt or ice remover, sanding walks, driveways, parking areas, steps, and other areas as neededRequired to be present if and when emergencies arise such as ice/snow storms, other inclement weather, etc.Checks daily to ensure that all fire doors are working properly during the time of building utilizationAssists in maintaining proper heating and cooling conditions in compliance with energy management standardsSweeps assigned classrooms daily and dusts furnitureCleans corridors after school each day and during the day when their condition requires cleaningAs assigned, scrubs and disinfects washroom floors daily, and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains dailyAs assigned, washes windows on both inside and outside at least twice a yearKeeps the building and grounds free of rubbishPerforms such yard keeping chores as grass cutting, tree and shrubbery trimming, and the like as necessary to maintain the school and respective grounds in a safe and attractive conditionKeeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservationMakes minor repairs as appropriateReports minor repairs needed to the chief custodian promptlyReports immediately to the chief custodian any damage to school or school propertyAssumes responsibility for the opening and/or closing of the building each school day and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned offAssures that an adequate inventory of supplies and appropriate equipment are on hand and requisitions needed replacements from the chief custodianConducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repairMoves furniture and/or equipment as required for various activities as directed by the chief custodian or his/her designeeComplies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and wasteAttends training schools/programs, specific or general, for custodians to learn, upgrade, or maintain necessary custodial skills/performanceExecutes all essential functions of the jobPerforms other duties as deemed necessary by the chief custodian (or his/her designee), building administrator, or chief of buildings and ground Essential Functions:Checks and secures building at beginning and end of shift for the purpose of ensuring the safety and cleanliness of the building.Cleans rooms, hallways, cafeterias, restrooms, offices, stairways, and other areas of building according to school district standards.Sweeps, mops, buffs, strips, and waxes floors.Cleans rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and blinds.Washes walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, doors, and sills.Removes graffiti, cleans glass areas.Replaces light bulbs.Sets up and breaks down chairs, tables and equipment in meeting rooms, and functional rooms.Clears snow from entrances and walks, and spreads sand and ice melting chemicals.Performs grounds-keeping duties, clears debris and maintains grounds.Receives deliveries and assists in unloading trucks and storing supplies.Delivers supplies and materials to classrooms, bathrooms and other areas of the building.Empties wastebaskets; picks up and removes trash and assists in recycling program.
