Senior Technical Project Manager
Role summaryNational Water Services is hiring a Senior Project Manager to lead our Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central ERP implementation. This is a permanent, full-time position reporting to the CFO. The Project Manager is the NWS-side counterparty to our Systems Integrator (RSM) and owns business requirements mapping, change-order discipline, data migration, and Go-Live acceptance. A secondary responsibility is to mentor an internal NWS employee in project-management fundamentals through the engagement. What you'll own■ End-to-end project management of the Business Central ERP implementation from Solution Verification through go-live and stabilization.■ Translation of business requirements into the RSM implementation plan; review of design documents; pre-empting change-order surprises.■ Data migration workstream — extraction, cleansing, mapping, and load from legacy systems (FileMaker, PWT, QuickBooks) into Business Central.■ Steering Committee facilitation — agenda, status, decisions, RAID log, and one-page weekly status reporting that the CEO and Board can rely on.■ Change-order review and budget discipline; ensuring scope stays within approved boundaries and elevating exceptions for SteerCo decision.■ Go-Live Authorization sign-off with named acceptance criteria; 30-day stabilization plan.■ Mentorship of an internal NWS team member in project-management fundamentals throughout the engagement.■ Coordination across the Customer Service, Field Operations, Finance, and IT functions during requirements gathering, testing, and rollout.Required experience■ Minimum 7 years of project management experience in enterprise technology implementations.■ Direct client-side experience implementing Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central through go-live on at least one engagement. We are looking for someone who has been the customer-side owner, not the Systems Integrator delivery lead.■ Hands-on experience with data migration on an ERP cutover — extraction, cleansing, mapping, and load — not just supervised it.■ Experience working alongside a Systems Integrator (RSM, Avanade, Hitachi Solutions, Sikich, Velosio, HSO, or similar) and managing change orders, scope discipline, and Solution Verification cadence.■ Operating-company background — at least 3 years inside a company in a delivery or PMO role, not pure consultancy.Strongly preferred experience■ Field-service or distributed-operations context — water, HVAC, refrigeration, vending, utilities, last-mile, or similar businesses where technicians or contractors operate in the field.■ Experience with custom Power Pages portal implementations or custom front-end work on Business Central.■ Has worked through a system retirement (legacy to modern), ideally including QuickBooks, FileMaker, or similar small-business-era tooling.■ Private-equity-backed operating company exposure — comfortable with monthly board reporting cadence and operating-partner reviews.■ Change-management qualification (Prosci ADKAR or equivalent).■ Mentorship experience — has developed a junior PM from beginner to independent operator.Certifications■ Required: PMP (or PgMP, Prince2 Practitioner) — must be current and earned. If not currently held, candidate must obtain within 6 months of start as a condition of the role.■ Preferred: Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt; Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Functional Consultant Associate or Project Manager Specialty.Technical capabilities■ Reads a Solution Verification Document critically — can identify SI over-promising and pre-empt change-order surprises.■ Working familiarity with Business Central's data model and the AL (Application Language) extension framework. No coding required, but candidate should understand what is standard vs. customization, and what creates long-term maintenance debt.■ Can build and maintain a portfolio tracker with named owners, dollarized milestones, and an operating cadence.■ Power BI or comparable dashboard literacy — can read, interpret, and challenge KPI dashboards.■ Vendor and SI management — knows where SIs typically over-promise and how to hold them to scope.■ Steering Committee facilitation — runs the agenda, captures decisions, drives accountability between meetings.Soft skills and instincts■ Operator mindset. Has been on the client side of an SI relationship and knows how to extract value without being captured by the consultancy.■ High agency. Sees a gap and fills it before being asked. Doesn't wait for perfect conditions.■ Direct, low-ego communicator. Comfortable raising issues early; comfortable disagreeing in the room without making it personal.■ Comfortable in ambiguity. Will ship a useful draft today rather than a perfect deliverable in three weeks.■ Mentorship instinct. Actively develops the people working alongside them; a structured PM apprenticeship for our internal team member is part of the role.■ Comfortable saying no. To the team pushing to replicate legacy workarounds in the new system; to the SI proposing scope expansion outside budget; to the CEO when needed.Working context■ Reports to: CFO.■ Key working relationships: CEO, CSO, RSM lead PM, RSM Tech Advisory partner, and the broader NWS leadership team.■ Direct reports: none initially.■ Travel: approximately 15–20% during the implementation phase; declining thereafter.■ Onsite expectation: minimum 3 days per week onsite during the ERP implementation; settling per the standard NWS hybrid pattern post-go-live.■ Employment terms: permanent, full-time, W-2.
