Medical Assistant Palliative CareProvides basic level of patient care and treatments. Assists with obtaining vital signs, documents chief complaint and all actions taken. Alerts physician of problems/concerns/abnormalities. Assists with obtaining patient history, assists physicians and residents and/or licensed nursing personnel. Performs simple patient procedures, sets up exam/procedure rooms including instruments for minor procedures, prepares and may include administrating medications (excluding IV) under direct supervision of a physician. Obtains lab specimen and fills out requisitions completely and accurately. In addition to the above, the Medical Assistant II functions more independently and coordinates the workflow of MAs when necessary. Obtains authorization for referral (normally in small clinics). Conducts front desk duties such as registration, check-in and scheduling of patientsMaintains hospital standards of zero tolerance for mislabeled specimens and collects laboratory specimens according to hospital protocolAssists the nurse/physician during examinations, treatments and procedures as requestedRetrieves necessary equipment and suppliesAssists in patient/equipment preparationPerforms follow-up actions as directedDocuments clinically relevant findings in the patient's record according to hospital protocols and clinical protocolsRequiredHigh School Graduate/GEDCertificate Other Medical Assistant/Completion of an accredited MA programOther Completion of a US Armed Forces medical services training programComputer program utilized for checking-in and scheduling patients.Basic Life Support - CPRPreferredPrevious Medical Assistant ExperienceElectronic Medical Record EMR experienceExperience in designated specialty areaBilingual skills
