Seamstress As the Seamstress, you will be responsible for the expert tailoring, repair, and upkeep of staff uniforms and hotel textiles, reflecting the elegance and precision expected in a luxury setting. With an eye for detail and a steady hand, you'll ensure every team member looks polished and professional, and that all fabric furnishings maintain their refined aesthetic. You may also provide discreet tailoring services to guests, enhancing their Charleston experience with personalized attention and Southern hospitality.As a Uniform Attendant, you are an integral part of delivering the polished, gracious image that defines Southern hospitality. You will manage the hotel's uniform inventory with precision and care, ensuring each team member presents themselves in a manner that reflects the historic elegance and exceptional service our city is known for. Behind every well-dressed associate is a dedicated professional ensuring their uniforms are immaculate, well-fitted, and ready to impress.Duties & Responsibilities:Alter, mend, and tailor employee uniforms to ensure proper fit, appearance, and consistency in line with hotel standards.Perform hand and machine repairs on hotel linens, draperies, decorative pillows, and upholstery fabrics.Maintain and track uniform inventory, issuing and labeling garments for new hires and assisting with seasonal updates.Inspect uniforms for wear, tear, and cleanliness; coordinate repairs or alterations.Provide emergency garment repair and select tailoring services to hotel guests upon request, particularly for VIPs or bridal/event clientele.Keep the uniform room clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies.Operate industrial sewing machines, steamers, irons, and hand tools with precision and care.Uphold high standards of discretion, professionalism, and guest privacy.Assist in preserving the timeless Southern elegance and visual identity of the hotel through fabric care and presentation.Maintain knowledge of hotel services, facilities, outlets, and hours of operation.Follow hotel/company emergency procedures and assist in emergency situations when required.Perform additional tasks as assigned by management to support hotel operations.Required Skills & Experience:Minimum 2 years' experience as a seamstress, tailor, or costume/garment technician, preferably in a hotel, resort, or luxury fashion setting.Skilled in sewing machine operation, alterations, hemming, hand-sewing, and garment care.Ability to work with a wide range of fabrics and garments, from cotton and linen to silk and wool blends.Strong attention to detail, craftsmanship, and finishing.Well-organized and capable of managing time independently.Professional demeanor with strong communication skills and a guest-focused attitude.Physically able to sit, stand, and lift light materials throughout the shift.Flexibility to work varied schedules as needed, including weekends.Embroidery or custom monogramming skills a plus.Physically able to lift bins of uniforms, operate machines, and stand for extended periods.Physical Requirements:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a colleague to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:Must be able to lift equipment, supplies, etc. of at least 30 pounds.Must be able to resolve problems, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure.The role may require extended periods of time on your feet, especially during peak hotel hours or events.Good hearing is necessary for effective communication with colleagues, guests, and stakeholders.Available to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.BHC is an equal employment opportunity employer.
