Senior Avionics & Electrical Systems EngineerLocation: Full-time On-Site (CA)Type: Full-Time | Founding Team OpportunityFloat is an early-stage aerospace company developing advanced airship systems for large-scale cargo applications. We are focused on solving hard aerospace problems and translating ambitious concepts into real, tested hardware. Our team is small, execution-driven, and building a new airship platform from first principles.The RoleAs a Senior Avionics & Electrical Systems Engineer, you will design, build, and integrate the electrical and avionics systems that enable safe, reliable operation of Float’s airship platform. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on power distribution, sensing, flight-critical electronics, and system integration.You will work closely with structures, propulsion, and systems engineers to take avionics designs from early architecture through physical hardware, testing, and iteration.ResponsibilitiesDesign and develop electrical and avionics subsystems for a large-scale cargo airshipArchitect power distribution, grounding, and protection schemesSelect, integrate, and validate sensors, actuators, and flight-critical electronicsDesign wiring harnesses, connector schemes, and system layouts with manufacturability and serviceability in mindSupport hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, bench testing, and system bring-upParticipate directly in prototype build, integration, and testingAssist in developing test plans, validation procedures, and failure analysesCollaborate closely with software, structures, propulsion, and manufacturing teamsQualificationsDegree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent real-world experienceStrong background in electrical system design for embedded or aerospace systemsExperience designing and integrating power, sensing, and control electronicsProficiency with schematic capture, wiring diagrams, and basic PCB-level designUnderstanding of EMI/EMC, grounding, and fault toleranceComfortable working hands-on with hardware in a shop or lab environmentStrong problem-solving skills and attention to detailNice to HaveExperience with avionics systems or flight-critical electronicsBackground in UAVs, experimental aircraft, robotics, or automotive systemsFamiliarity with certification-aware or regulated environmentsExperience with hardware bring-up, debugging, and instrumentationPrior experience at an aerospace startup or skunkworks-style engineering teamWhy Join UsThis is a rare opportunity to shape the core engineering DNA of a company redefining how cargo moves across the planet.
