This is a high-impact, physician-led program within a well-established Level III NICU facility offering 24-hour in-house coverage and long-term scheduling consistency. This opportunity has re-opened due to a recent provider departure, creating a stable, long-term need within an already structured and fully operational OB hospitalist program. Opportunity Snapshot Location: Wausau, Wisconsin Contract Type: OB Hospitalist Locum Tenens Start Date: June 2026 Duration: Long-Term (6 months) Shift Schedule: 24-hour shifts (8:00 AM – 8:00 AM) Monthly Volume: 4–5 shifts per month Coverage Model: 1 physician onsite 24/7/365 EMR: Epic Facility Overview Hospital Beds: 307 Annual Deliveries: 1,557 Projected Unassigned Deliveries: 300 Annual OBED Visits: ~2,000 Annual Surgical Procedures: ~30–40 C-Section Rate: 35–40% Primary C-Section Rate: ~22% NICU Level: III (24/7 in-house Neonatology) This is a well-established OB program with consistent volume and strong clinical infrastructure. Practice Environment This is a true OB Hospitalist model with full scope inpatient responsibilities: Manage all unassigned OB/GYN patients presenting to L&D or the ED Serve as primary provider in OB-ED and triage Perform antepartum, postpartum, and GYN rounds Handle obstetric emergencies and emergent GYN cases Provide emergent GYN surgery (e.g., ectopic pregnancy, ovarian torsion) Assist with vaginal deliveries and C-sections as needed Collaborate with private OB/GYNs for patient management and coverage Additional Responsibilities: Inpatient OB/GYN consults NST interpretation Participation in department initiatives, simulations, and education Support nursing staff in obstetric emergencies and training This is a high-functioning, physician-driven environment with clear responsibilities and strong clinical support. Support & Subspecialty Backup Back-Up Call: Employed OB providers (1:4 rotation) Neonatology: 24/7 in-house Level III NICU coverage Maternal-Fetal Medicine: On-site consultation available Surgical Assist: APCs trained for surgical assistance This program offers comprehensive specialty support uncommon in many locum OB roles.
