2nd Shift Maintenance SupervisorChicago, IL$120,000 - $125,000 Base + Additional Earnings Potential2nd Shift | 2:30/2:45 PM – 11:00 PMDirect HireAn established and highly recognized manufacturer in the Chicago area is seeking a hands-on 2nd Shift Maintenance Supervisor to lead a skilled union maintenance team in a high-volume industrial manufacturing environment.This opportunity became available due to an internal promotion and offers strong long-term stability, growth potential, and the chance to work in a fast-paced operation with complex automated production equipment.Position OverviewThe Maintenance Supervisor will lead 10-15 union maintenance mechanics on 2nd shift and play a critical role in keeping operations running efficiently, safely, and reliably. This individual will manage maintenance scheduling, oversee preventive maintenance programs, respond to production issues, coordinate planned shutdowns, and navigate an active union environment.This is a highly visible leadership role requiring both strong technical expertise and proven union leadership experience.Key ResponsibilitiesSupervise and lead 10-15 union maintenance mechanics on 2nd shiftManage daily maintenance schedules and production support activitiesDrive preventive maintenance (PM) programs and equipment reliability initiativesTroubleshoot complex electrical and mechanical issuesEnter and manage purchase orders and maintenance documentationLead and coordinate 6 planned shutdown periods annuallyEnforce safety, GMP, and operational standardsHandle union grievances and maintain effective labor relationsCollaborate closely with production, engineering, and plant leadershipRequired Qualifications5+ years of Maintenance Supervisory experience in a unionized manufacturing environmentStrong experience handling union grievances and labor relationsExpert-level electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skillsExperience reading electrical blueprints, diagrams, and PLC programsStrong mechanical knowledge including power transmission, fabrication, and machine designAbility to work 2nd shift (2:30/2:45 PM – 11:00 PM)Ability to work approximately 5-6 Saturdays per year during planned shutdownsPreferred QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Engineering, Maintenance, or related fieldExperience with CMMS and ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar)Background in food, chemical, pharmaceutical, steel, or heavy industrial manufacturingIdeal Candidate ProfileCalm under pressure and highly organizedStrong communicator and team leaderComfortable operating in an active union environmentHands-on leadership styleProactive and detail-orientedAble to step in and support the team during shutdowns and critical repairsCompensation & BenefitsBase salary: $120K-$125KAdditional earnings potential up to ~$135K with scheduled Saturday workStable, long-established manufacturing organizationStrong growth and advancement opportunitiesCollaborative and highly visible leadership environmentIf you are a strong maintenance leader with union experience and both electrical and mechanical expertise, we encourage you to apply.
