School NurseQualifications:Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing education as a minimum requirementCurrent license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of South Carolina as a minimum requirementThree years of recent nursing experience preferably in pediatric, emergency room, and/or public health nursingCurrent CPR/First-Aid/AED certificationAbility to work with staff and students to address a variety of health and medical issuesStrong oral and written communication skillsAbility to lift and transfer students (approximately 50 lbs.)Reports to: Executive Director of Special Services, Coordinator of Student Health ServicesGeneral Job Description: Under limited supervision, leads and manages the safe delivery of healthcare services in the school setting and ensures that school health procedures adhere to federal, state, and current standards of the Nurse Practice Act.Essential Job Functions:Follows district guidelines/procedures for school healthFollows nursing procedure/policy manualCompletes Medicaid complianceConsults with other school nurses and school/district administration on health issuesAttends school nurse meetingsGathers documentation to support recommendations for the Medical Homebound ProgramKeeps informed of developments and innovations in the professionAttends statewide school nurse meetings, DHEC meetings/trainings, etc.Looks for conditions which might indicate the presence of communicable diseases; alerts faculty, parents, physicians, and public health authorities when necessaryReceives, reviews, prepares, and/or submits various records and reports including health screening data, health records, laboratory reports, immunization records, physicians' statements, accident/injury reports, student health records, referrals, supply requests, monthly and annual reports, permission forms, training reports, memos, correspondence, etc.Reports suspected child abuse/sexual abuse/neglect to the Department of Social Services when necessaryCoordinates health services and promotions with community health agencies, including vaccinations.Maintains confidential health records of studentsEnsures medical supplies and equipment in assigned school is available and in proper working orderComplies with all federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, administrative rules, and directivesPerforms related duties as required
