5-Axis CNC Programmer (Direct Hire)
Our client, a leading manufacturer serving the Defense and Heavy Industrial Forging industries, is seeking an experienced 5-Axis CNC Programmer to join their team. This role is critical in developing, optimizing, and ensuring the efficient operation of CNC programs for large-scale, high-precision components. The ideal candidate brings strong multi-axis programming experience and a deep understanding of machining complex geometries and high-strength alloys.
Position Summary
The 5-Axis CNC Programmer will be responsible for creating, optimizing, and verifying CNC programs for vertical and horizontal boring mills. This role requires expertise in advanced CAM software, blueprint interpretation, and process optimization to ensure parts meet strict quality and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, optimize, and verify 5-axis CNC machining programs using CAM software such as Siemens NX and Mastercam
Program for vertical and horizontal boring mills to machine large, complex components
Interpret complex engineering drawings, 3D models, and blueprints to create accurate machining processes
Select appropriate cutting tools, speeds, feeds, and workholding methods for materials such as titanium, Inconel, stainless steel, and alloy steels
Create and prove out programs, ensuring precision, safety, and compliance with strict specifications
Collaborate with machinists, engineers, and quality teams to improve processes, reduce cycle times, and enhance repeatability
Maintain CNC program files, setup sheets, and documentation in compliance with ITAR, DoD, and quality standards
Troubleshoot machining and programming issues to minimize downtime
Support continuous improvement initiatives related to efficiency, tooling, and machine utilization
Ensure adherence to ISO 9001 and defense-related compliance standards
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum 5+ years of CNC programming experience, with at least 3+ years in 5-axis machining
Proficiency in CAM software such as Mastercam, Siemens NX, or CATIA
Associate degree or technical certification in CNC Programming, Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
Strong knowledge of G-code/M-code, machine controls, and coordinate systems
Experience working with large forgings and complex geometries
Familiarity with GD&T, precision tolerancing, and surface finish requirements per MIL and ANSI standards
Working knowledge of cutting tool technology, coolant strategies, and material properties
Experience with Vericut or similar verification software preferred
Experience with Faro laser inspection and generating inspection reports is a plus
Prior experience in DoD, aerospace, marine, or high-security manufacturing environments strongly preferred
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, models, and setup documentation
