We steward precious resources by finding more sustainable solutions.Job SummaryTYLin is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Electrical Engineer (Traction Power) to support and lead complex Rail + Transit infrastructure projects across the Mid-Atlantic region, serving agencies such as WMATA, VRE, MDOT MTA, Amtrak, and other regional transit authorities.TYLin is committed to identifying top talent to continue with our plans to grow our organization. This posting is intended to establish a talent pipeline for future Senior Track Engineer roles in the Mid-Atlantic region and may not be tied to a specific vacancy at this time.The OpportunityThis role is ideal for a senior-level traction power specialist with deep experience in DC and/or AC railway electrification systems, substation design, and power distribution for heavy rail, commuter rail, light rail, or streetcar systems.You will provide technical leadership, design oversight, and project delivery expertise across planning, preliminary engineering, and final design phases, ensuring compliance with agency standards, AREMA guidelines, NFPA, NEC, IEEE, and other applicable codes.Responsibilities & QualificationsWhat You'll Do:Technical Leadership & DesignLead the design of traction power systems, including:Traction power substations (TPSS)Rectifier and transformer systemsDC switchgear and AC distributionOverhead catenary system (OCS) power interfacesThird rail power systemsNegative return, stray current mitigation, and grounding/bonding systemsPerform and oversee load flow, short-circuit, voltage drop, harmonic, and coordination studies.Develop design criteria, technical specifications, drawings, and calculations.Conduct design reviews and ensure QA/QC compliance.Project DeliveryServe as Engineer of Record (as applicable).Coordinate with civil, structural, track, signals, and systems disciplines.Interface with utility companies and transit agency stakeholders.Support construction services, including RFIs, submittal reviews, and field inspections.Client & Business Development SupportSupport proposals and technical pursuits for regional transit agencies.Participate in client meetings and technical presentations.Contribute to strategic growth of the Rail + Transit practice in the Mid-Atlantic.What You'll Bring:Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's preferred).Professional Engineer (PE) license (DC, MD, or VA preferred; ability to obtain reciprocity required).10+ years of progressive experience in traction power and rail electrification design.Demonstrated experience with heavy rail, commuter rail, light rail, or streetcar systems.Strong working knowledge of:DC traction power systems (600V-1500V DC typical ranges)AC utility interconnections (e.g., 13.2kV, 25kV, 34.5kV systems)Protective relaying and coordinationGrounding and bonding for rail systemsFamiliarity with WMATA, Amtrak, MDOT MTA, or similar agency standards is highly desirable.Experience with ETAP, SKM, or similar power system modeling software preferred.Strong written and verbal communication skills.What We're Looking ForA technically rigorous engineer who can operate as a subject matter expert in traction power.A collaborative leader who can mentor junior engineers and guide multidisciplinary teams.A professional who understands the complexity of public infrastructure delivery and stakeholder coordination in dense urban environments.Someone motivated to help expand TYLin's Rail + Transit presence in the Mid-Atlantic market.Why TYLin?TYLin is a globally recognized infrastructure consulting firm known for delivering technically complex, high-impact transportation projects.
