Staff Accountant
Job Summary:As a key member of the OME accounting team, the Staff Accountant will bring intermediate-level expertise to support OME and its subsidiaries’ financial activities. This position will play a key role in the Accounting Department and will perform a wide range of accounting activities including maintaining the general ledger, project accounting, assisting with audit preparations, and performing reconciliations. Reporting directly to the company Controller, this role is ideal for a hands-on and detail-oriented accounting professional who is comfortable working in an office environment. Experience with drilling, utilities or energy, mining, or construction project-based industries is preferred.Duties/Responsibilities: Support the accounting side of procurement by validating purchase orders, matching invoices, and coding expenditures accurately.Ensure accurate allocation of labor, materials, equipment, and overhead to cost centers or job codes.Monitor open commitments and report on purchase order utilization and outstanding balances.Prepare journal entries, accruals, amortization and depreciation schedules for multiple subsidiaries.Prepare and reconcile cash and balance sheet accounts.Maintain proper documentation in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles for audit readiness and compliance with internal controls.Support the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close process ensuring timely submission of financial reports.Prepare financial reports and schedules for internal and external stakeholdersCollaborate with Finance to provide project performance reports and dashboards for management reviewContribute with process improvement initiatives to enhance reporting and financial tracking accuracy.Required Skills/Abilities:Solid understanding of GAAP accounting and financial reporting standardsStrong proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis)Familiarity with ERP systems (i.e. NetSuite)Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities.Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with both office and field personnel.Strong written and verbal communication skillsEducation & Experience:Bachelor’s degree in accounting.2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in energy, mining, or construction project-based industriesPreferred Education & Experience:Experience with cost accounting or job costing in constructionMulti-subsidiary and intercompany reconciliation and consolidations.Knowledge of inventory and fixed asset tracking in a field operations environment.CMA, CPA, or master’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field or other relevant certificationsPhysical & Work Environment Requirements:Must be able to communicate with others to exchange informationRemains in a sedentary position for long periods of time working on a computerWork in Office environmentMust be able to lift up to 20lbs pounds occasionally.Use repeating motions that may include the wrist, hands, and/or fingersReasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the Duties and Responsibilities of the role.General AccountabilitiesPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
