DescriptionEstablished in 1994, Nauticus is a maritime discovery center that hosts 350,000 visitors annually and is home to the Nauticus Museum, Sail Nauticus sailing center, Schooner Virginia, the Battleship Wisconsin and the Half Moone Cruise Terminal. Nauticus’ mission is to benefit the community through education, impactful experiences and by sharing access to maritime resources. Nauticus is seeking a Maritime Center Specialist I that supports the overall function of Cruise and Nauticus events.Nauticus is a maritime discovery center located along the waterfront in downtown, Norfolk offering a unique form of experiential learning for all ages. Through interactive exhibits and STEM to STERN programming, Nauticus uses the museum, Battleship Wisconsin, sailing center, and Schooner Virginia to tell the story of the maritime environment, industry, and the military.Department Starting Hourly Rate: $15/hourEssential FunctionsEssential Functions include but are not limited to:Greet and interact with guests.Answer on-site guest questions and resolve guest issues.Accurately process monetary transactions and adhere to all cash handling policies.Process admission tickets, membership enrollments/renewals/gifts through CRM software.Maintain and update membership database ensuring accuracy.Supports events by staffing check ins, membership sales, and maintaining lines.Supports end of day sales reconciliation, contribute to preparation / closeout of tills utilized by Guest Services team.Performs other duties as assigned.Education/ExperienceWork requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, or technical processes.Previous experience working in similar environments: guest relations, entertainment, or educational institutions preferred.Previous Cash Handling Experience, PreferredPrevious phone customer service experience, preferredAdditional Information & RequirementsWork Location: One Waterside Drive, Norfolk, VA 23510Work Hours: This position is intermittent part-time working 20 hours per week. Includes weekends, may include some evenings and holidays.Regular full-time and permanent part-time employees may receive paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, employer paid pension plan, basic life insurance, voluntary participation in medical and dental, Section 457 deferred compensation, long-term disability, optional life insurance for self, spouse and children, medical and dependent care reimbursement plans, access to membership in credit union and employer provided parking. RetirementIf you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.The Tuition Assistance Program is established to encourage employees toward continued self-development and education.
