CNC Plasma Programmer/Operator
CNC Plasma Programmer / OperatorAbout the Role
We are looking for an experienced, mechanically minded CNCPlasmaProgrammer/Operator to take ownership of our industrial plasma cutting operation.
This is not simply a machine operator position.
We need someone who understands how steel fabrication works, can read and interpret drawings, think through the best way to produce a job, troubleshoot problems, and make good decisions without needing constant direction.
The right person will be comfortable working both at the computer and in the yard. You will be responsible for programming/nesting parts, setting up and operating our *Alltra* plasma cutting system, maintaining cut quality, maximizing material utilization, and keeping work flowing efficiently to downstream fabrication.
Experience specifically with Alltra equipment is helpful, but notrequired. Experience with other industrial CNC plasma, laser, waterjet, or similar cutting systems will be considered.
What You'll Do
* Program, set up, and operate an industrial CNC plasma cutting table.
* Read and interpret fabrication drawings, part drawings, dimensions, and specifications.
* Create and adjust part layouts and nests to maximize plate utilization and minimize scrap.
* Determine the best approach for cutting jobs based on material, thickness, part geometry, quality requirements, and downstream production needs.
* Monitor cut quality and make adjustments to feeds, speeds, consumables, torch height, and other machine parameters when necessary.
* Inspect finished parts using tape measures, calipers, and other measuring tools.
* Identify problems before they become scrap or production delays.
* Troubleshoot machine, programming, nesting, and cut-quality issues.
* Perform routine machine maintenance and monitor consumable condition.
* Organize jobs and material to keep the plasma operation productive.
* Communicate with production, engineering, and fabrication teams when drawings, material, or production requirements need clarification.
* Look for ways to improve throughput, material utilization, quality, and overall efficiency.
* Maintain a clean and safe work area.
What We're Looking For
We're less interested in a particular brand of machine than we are in finding someone who understands the work and knows how to think through problems.
Strong candidates will have:
* Experience operating or programming industrial CNC cutting equipment such as plasma, laser, waterjet, or similar machinery.
* Experience working with steel plate and fabricated steel products.
* Ability to read and understand fabrication drawings and blueprints.
* Experience with CAD/CAM, nesting, or CNC programming software.
* Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
* Understanding of dimensions, tolerances, cut quality, and basic quality-control practices.
* Ability to plan work independently and make good production decisions.
* Strong attention to detail.
* A willingness to ask questions when necessary—but also the judgment to solve problems independently.
* A mindset focused on improving the process rather than simply completing the next task.
Experience with *Alltra plasma equipment is a plus, but not required.*
The Person Who Will Be Successful Here
You may be a plasma operator, CNC programmer, laser operator, waterjet operator, fabrication technician, or experienced steel fabricator who has moved into CNC equipment.
More important than your exact job title is how you approach the work.
We want someone who sees a bad nest and wants to improve it. Someone who notices a cut-quality problem before an entire plate is ruined. Someone who understands that saving material, reducing downtime, and keeping downstream production moving are all part of the job.
If you're mechanically curious, comfortable with technology, and take pride in figuring out how to make things work better, we'd like to talk to you.
