Job TypeFull-timeDescriptionSenior Highway Transportation Engineer (PE) - NYSDOT, OpenRoads, Roadway DesignLead Buffalo-area highway and roadway design work including RDSA assignments directly with NYSDOT Region’s 4 and 6, Erie County, the City of Niagara Falls, and many more projects in the Western New York Market.Serve as the senior technical authority for roadway geometry, design reviews, constructability, standards, mentoring, and Engineer-of-Record-level work on high-profile transportation assignments.What You’ll DoServe as senior technical lead and subject matter expert for highway design plans and construction cost estimates for new and rehabilitation projects.Perform and oversee advanced geometric roadway design, including alignments, profiles, cross-sections, grading, interchange layouts, and corridor improvements.Conduct senior technical reviews for quality, constructability, regulatory compliance, and adherence to NYSDOT, state, and local design standards.Support project managers on scope, schedule, budget, client coordination, subconsultant coordination, RFIs, site visits, and construction-phase technical questions.Serve as Engineer of Record when appropriate and mentor junior engineers while strengthening roadway design standards and team capability.RequirementsWhat We’re Looking ForB.S. in Civil Engineering or related field; M.S. preferred.20+ years of progressive highway and roadway design experience with a Professional Engineering License (PE).Advanced proficiency in MicroStation or OpenRoads and demonstrated experience with NYSDOT design standards.Experience serving as senior technical reviewer, design authority, technical lead, or Engineer of Record on complex transportation work.Sound engineering judgment, ownership, organization, collaboration, integrity, respect, curiosity, and an improvement-minded approach to better solutions.Preferred QualificationsDeep experience with roadway reconstruction, corridor improvements, intersection upgrades, rehabilitation, and high-profile transportation assignments.Ability to independently manage complex design challenges and provide practical guidance to project teams and clients.Comfort working with state, municipal, regulatory, subconsultant, and internal teams across multidisciplinary transportation projects.Strong mentoring capability with the ability to develop junior engineers and reinforce quality, standards, and delivery discipline.Why Join FisherLead meaningful highway design work and influence technical standards within a multidisciplinary design services firm.Work on immediate, high-profile transportation assignments backed by a strong transportation backlog and major NYSDOT project activity.Grow as a technical leader in a culture built on collaboration, trust, ownership, transparency, continuous learning, and work-life balance.Compensation + BenefitsSalary range: $130,000-$175,000; actual compensation varies based on experience, qualifications, and other factors and excludes the value of benefits.Competitive benefits include medical, dental, vision, 401(k), company-paid life and disability insurance, PTO, paid holidays, and supplemental benefits.Hybrid work schedule, professional development reimbursement, shareholders program, strong work-life balance, and employee groups focused on community, inclusion, and employee voice.Location FlexibilityThis role is based in Buffalo, NY.
