Assistant Nurse Manager - Cardiac ICU (6E/10E) - Mount Sinai Morningside - Full Time (1pm-11pm)Description: The Assistant Nurse Manager is a Registered Professional Nurse with broad knowledge and skills who acts as clinical leader in the daily functioning of the unit and oversight of quality patient care delivery, in conjunction with, or in the absence of, the Clinical Nurse Manager.ResponsibilitiesPatient Care: Leads nursing practice using the tenets of the Professional Practice Model of Relationship Centered Care and the Care Delivery Model of Modified Primary Nursing for the promotion of the patient experience.Demonstrates proficiency in Purposeful Hourly Rounding (PHR) and models expected behaviors; ensures integration of PHR into clinical activities to enhance Relationship Centered Care.Validates staff rounds hourly on all patients by direct observation and patient feedback; assesses staff competency in PHR and provides consistent meaningful feedback.Conducts rounding of all patients daily (Monday-Friday); communicates patient experience and staff engagement information to the Interdisciplinary Patient Care Team to develop action plans.Collaborates with the physician dyad and escalates concerns as appropriate; follows up on patient concerns and provides service recovery as needed.Demonstrates caring, respect, compassion, empathy and active listening in interactions with patients and families.Patient ExperienceRole models Mount Sinai Relationship Centered Care through actions such as Admission Welcome, Bedside Shift Report, 5 Minute Sit Down, PHR, Medication Review, Discharge Wrap Up, and MD/RN Unit Collaboration.Huddles with staff at shift start to identify high-risk patients; communicates concerns to nursing leadership.Initiates service recovery for patients and families; informs leadership as needed.Interprets and communicates patient experience scores and benchmarks to staff and tracks areas for improvement.Incorporates patient values and preferences into care and empowers staff to use evidence-based practices.Quality and SafetyDesigns and leads a safe, therapeutic, and efficient patient-centered care environment.Identifies and investigates practice/operation variances via RCA and implements corrective actions.Fosters a culture that encourages reporting of errors and near-misses; leads interdisciplinary quality improvement using high-reliability principles.Monitors quality and safety metrics and ensures compliant practices; corrects safety gaps following command protocols.Leads staff participation in mandated quality and safety initiatives and maintains staff competency evaluations.Operations and AdministrationSupports departmental mission, vision, goals, and objectives; provides administrative and clinical oversight of staffing, resources, and collaboration to meet organizational goals.Ensures unit compliance with regulatory mandates (e.g., NYS DOH, The Joint Commission); oversees 24-hour patient care delivery and throughput.Prepares and monitors unit budgets, including capital equipment, variances, and recruitment/retention efforts; manages OT and vacancies per financial goals.Maintains confidentiality, evaluates nursing staff performance, and mentors and coaches as needed.Leads regular staff meetings, promotes quality and safety initiatives, and fosters shared governance and staff engagement.Professional DevelopmentActs as a clinical leader who supports nursing practice and a care environment reflecting clinical excellence.Promotes ethical decision-making, lifelong learning, and application of evidence-based practices.Serves as a professional role model and preceptor for new leadership staff and students; participates in professional organizations.QualificationsBachelor of Science in Nursing required; master's in nursing or health-related field preferred.Minimum 3 years of Cardiac ICU nursing experience; charge nurse/supervisory experience preferred.CCRN certification preferred.Current NYS Registered Nurse license; ACLS and BCLS (AHA) required.Non-Bargaining Unit, BIX - Nursing 6e Ccu Csicu - STL, Mount Sinai St. Luke'sEmployer DescriptionStrength through Unity and Inclusion.
