Graduation Coach

Job Title: Graduation Coach Reports To: Building Administrator FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Working Days: 188 JOB SUMMARY Provide support to students who are at-risk for not completing a diploma program. Connect students to resources, schools and programs to support their progress towards graduation. The graduation coach works under the direction of the Principal and in coordination with Assistant Principals, School Counselors, and the CARE team. BASIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Basic duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned. Work directly with students and families in various settings to link them with eligible District, community, and governmental resources/programs Communicate with students who have dropped out to re-engage them with our schools and programs and aid in the transition Provide follow-up support and encourage both student and parent engagement in school activities Consult with staff to promote a healthy school culture Promote and facilitate parent involvement in school based volunteer opportunities Maintain accurate files related to supports provided to assigned students or programs Retrieve, prepare, and report data, as requested Assist with the implementation of approved programs that support student progress towards completing a high school diploma or equivalent Assist with the identification of students in need of additional support and assessing student academic needs Develop student academic and vocational plans and monitor progress towards completion Mentor students as assigned May perform duties during a home visit Maintains a safe learning environment for students at all times. Reports safety, sanitary and fire hazards immediately to supervisor. Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required. Complies with applicable District policies and procedures, state, local and federal laws, rules and regulations. Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff and community. Attends work regularly and is punctual. Attends in-services, trainings, and staff meetings as required. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Additional post-secondary education an asset. Experience: Two years of experience in a post-secondary educational program. Experience with engaging students with school activities and program. Works well with others. Focuses on solving conflict; maintaining confidentiality; listening to others without interrupting; keeping emotions under control; remaining open to others’ ideas and contributing to building a positive team spirit. Proficient oral and written communication skills in English. Bilingual in Spanish an asset. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions in one-on-one, small group situations to students and other school staff. Ability to verbally respond to common inquiries from students. Ability to read and interpret documents. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Proficient in the use of computer and Internet based applications, including but not limited to email and systems applications Ability to appropriately communicate with students, teachers, parents and members of the community. Ability to exercise good judgment and work in a dynamic environment and appropriately react to a wide spectrum of behaviors of students. Certificates as determined by the District. Ability to obtain a valid CPR/First Aid card, bloodborne pathogen training, child abuse, sexual conduct and any other District required training.
