Government Affairs Associate
This is a remote-work Government Affairs Junior Associate position with a growing, boutique, bipartisan government affairs firm, similar to a Congressional Legislative Correspondent position with a combination of policy, events planning, and administrative-type tasks.Active Policy Solutions (APS) was founded over a decade ago to provide specialized expertise to clients in social change, government relations, and advocacy initiatives. We provide representation in numerous practice areas with specific concentrations in education, youth development, health and fitness, sports and physical activity, and civil rights. Our clients are typically mid- to small-sized non-profits or member-based professional associations that need assistance navigating the complexities of the government and ensuring their voices are heard by policymakers. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Supporting the firm's government affairs activities, including:o Scheduling, compiling support material, and taking notes during meetings with government and organization offices to introduce our clients, build relationships, and advance other objectives, including policy matterso Monitoring news and otherwise keeping informed about issue areas and events within the scope of APS and our clientso Helping in the compiling and drafting of client reportsOverseeing client fly-ins and other events through:o Requesting meetingso Building scheduleso Drafting materials o Providing logisticsSupporting firm administration through:o Proofing documentso Summarizing news stories and compiling them into weekly newsletters for the firm and most clientso Maintaining a list of policy-significant events in a master calendaro Preparing presentation materials, such as PowerPoint presentationso Research, data entry, and maintaining firm databases, particularly keeping records of key contacts (i.e., government officials, business development, clients) o Perform special projects and other tasks as assigned by the Principals QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skillsExtremely detail-oriented (need to be able to rely on work being done with minimal supervision)Computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office products, particularly ExcelAble to work remotely, including having own laptop computer with up-to-date Office 365 softwareBe based in the greater DC area to be available to be on Capitol HillSelf-motivated and ambitiousComfortable with working where most coworker contact is virtual/phone/email (there is no office)Bonus attributes:o Federal and/or state government experience o Previous work in public policy, government relations, or a related field POSITION DETAILS:Full-time remote work, but occasionally may be asked to go to Washington, DCSalary and benefitso Beginning salary range of $45,000 to $55,000, depending on experienceo Health careo 401K (eligible after 1 year of service)o Most federal holidays and two weeks of paid vacation, accrued one day per month over the first 10 monthsTO APPLY: Interested applicants should email their cover letter, salary requirements, resume, and three references to Jean Louis at keystrokes104@gmail.com.
